View Full Version : Big Shipping Error - Shipped without the CE mark on them - Need advice!

Does anyone have advice on how to rectify a huge shipping error? We recently shipped two units of one of our products: 1 to Canada & 1 to Australia. We recently received the necessary certification to CE mark our products, but they have not been re-labeled yet, so - (mistake #1) they were shipped without the CE mark on them. And as far as I know, neither country takes CE mark alone. In addition, (mistake #2) they went out with one of our distributors labels on them, rather than our own.

Is there any easy way to fix this problem? We've obviously considered getting the units back from the customers, but are there other options??

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

If the units were shipped FOB your dock, they no longer belong to you. It might be a good idea to see when title changes hands before proceeding.

If having the goods returned for proper labeling is not an option at this point, once the goods arrive at their destinations, have someone there segregate the goods until the correct labels can be shipped to the appropriate locations. Once the correct labels arrive, have someone there apply the correct labels.

Usually the CE-mark is for selling on the European market. Neither Canada nor Australia is part of the EU, so that wouldn't get me all worked up. Gidgets option of sending the labels to the destination and relabelling the boxes/items there is definitely a good option, provided that you either have a trusted representative there or have good faith in you customer. It ought not disrupt your sleep either way :)

I can't add anything to the advice you've received above - just wanted to welcome you to the Cove :bigwave:

Thanks, everyone, for the replies so far! And thanks, Bill, for the warm welcome. :bigwave:

I've been lurking in here for some time. Didn't realize it until I saw the "Shy Poster" label.

Anyway, I've gotten a lot of great information in here (not to mention the free files)! I'm a first time QA Mgr, with a very strong ISO background, but getting a crash course in pretty much everything else (e.g., FDA, CE Mark, Sterilization, etc, etc.), so I have to check my hunches a lot. Lucky for me, most everthing I want to know about has already been covered in here at some point. :applause:

Thanks again!!
