Just wondering if anyone has access to documentation showing previous or recent acceptability of chrome plated instruments to use as an "alternative" for lab testing per ISO 10993-1 (2003)?!?

Try contacting your lab. If they have tested it they should be able to provide you with the results. :bigwave: Marc 29th October 2007, 12:10 AM An old post, but I'm interested. Does anyone have any experience with ISO 10993-1 chrome plating acceptance? harry 29th October 2007, 04:58 AM An old post, but I'm interested. Does anyone have any experience with ISO 10993-1 chrome plating acceptance? This is the only file with some relevance (http://www.tanury.com/medical.htm)after trawling the web for a while. A variety of PVD coatings have been certified to be biocompatible including titanium nitride (TiN), zirconium nitride (ZrN), chromium nitride (CrN), titanium aluminum nitride (TiAIN), aluminum titanium nitride (AITiN), amorphous diamond-like carbon (DLC) and tetrahedral amorphous carbon. Biocompatibility tests were conducted in accordance with ISO 10993-1 guidelines for materials which experience short term body contact. The results (Table 1) indicate that these coatings are acceptable for external and internal medical devices that come into contact with bone, skin, tissue or blood. PVD - Physical vapor deposition |
