View Full Version : Would relocation to a bigger plant affect our TS 16949 certification?
dcc_csd 20th April 2007, 05:41 AM To All;
We had been certified by TS16949 last December 2006 and get our certification by this April 2007. Since our company were now getting a lot of order, our management decided to move to a bigger plant by this year. My question is "Is there any effect on our TS certification if we will going to transfer on a bigger plant?" please advice.
Regards and tnx,
Cherry

Cherry,
I am not an expert in the TS16949 requirements, but I have been involved with certain requirements.
As I understand the PPAP process, if there is a change/move of equipment or facility, a new PPAP has to be submitted.
As for the Registration, I believe (and maybe corrected) that you would have to go through the Registration Process again, in my opinion.

Most definetly the PPAP process. Contact your registrar about the TS certificate, not sure about the registration process again, but your certificate will have to be changed.
dcc_csd 20th April 2007, 08:43 AM Thanks for your attention with my inquiry! Anyway i have read also that PPAP requirements and i have seen that i need to conduct PPAP if we were going to change on a new location, but are we really need to conduct PPAP even though our customer never require us to perform PPAP?
thanks in advance

Teri 20th April 2007, 08:46 AM Your customer never requires PPAP? Wow! Count yourself lucky!!!
If your never submitted one, I don't know that you would need to after you move.

I am not sure about that, only because the PPAP process is a requirement of the TS16949. It seems that the Registrar would want to review a PPAP Package as part of the registration. But, I could be wrong.
AndyN 20th April 2007, 11:55 AM A change of location would involve much more than PPAP's. Since you're probably involved with moving equipment, this is an opportunity to plan the process flow, using 'lean' as noted in ISO/TS 16949, under section 6.3.1. In addition, the processes will need to be validated (I guess a PPAP will look after this aspect). Change control will be affected under 7.1 (APQP) and many sections of 7.5, since I'd anticipate that the move won't just be a mirror image of you current operations.
The TS 'rules' should also be reviewed to see what they say about such a move. I don't have them to hand at the moment to give you guidance.
One thing I do know is that the better you inform your registrar, the better they will be able to work with you regarding what they expect you to demonstrate to show the risks, associated with the move, are minimized.
vanputten 23rd April 2007, 02:30 PM "PPAP" as a specific thing is not a requirement of TS 16949. A product approval process is a requirement of TS 16949. If you are requried to perform "PPAP's," this would be a customer requirement.
Check you conformance to the note in 4.2.3.1, and the text of 7.3.6.3 and 8.2.3.1. Automotive customers do not always require a "PPAP" but there is a general requirement for a product approval process. The words "PPAP" or "Production Part Approval Process" are not in TS 16949 as a specific reference to the document published by the Ford, Chrysler and GM (AIAG.)

Dirk
Mustang 23rd April 2007, 04:06 PM I went through this a few years ago. Pretty much the registrar left things as is until the next scheduled Surveillance audit, (which was about 1-2 months after the move). The address on the Cert was changed then. Keep in mind, though, that we didn't change how our QMS system worked, or our scope.
Yes, our customers did require PPAP (100+ parts), so that was a huge headache!
