Hi,

My company is a small scale organization ( ~200pax), which certified to ISO 9001:2000. The management set a mission to achieve ISO/TS 16949 certification.

I have some concern as below:-

(i) My experience QA Engineer and Supervisor just left the company, management freeze new intake, only left two junior Supervisor and me (QA Manager).

(ii) I had limited skill resources to implement the TS QMS. As no other qualify internal auditor to perform the process approach internal auditing, as other department qualify auditor also left the company.

(iii) There was no competence team prayer help me to implement the ISO/TS 16949 QMS.

I would seek for your help to guide me the simplest way of ISO/TS 16949 certification.

What would you foreseen problem may arise if management insist to go for ISO/TS 16949 certification? What is your advise to me to resolve all this issue?

Remark: I fail to educate the managment as their understanding is ISO/TS 16949 only documentation and paper work .

hello SK Tan,

good afternoon.

there are lots of threads in this site that can help you with the details! just be patient in searching and asking... :D

for starters, let me enumerate a few but glaring failure factors i have personally experienced, and as experienced by everyone in the QMS practice:

1) TS journey is NOT top mgt driven -- as with any program that may require cultural changes and perception/paradigm shifts, it wont work without Top Mgt at the helm. TS is not QS9000. TS is based on addressing customer needs first, the only way to do this is by having Top Mgt rally all its people towards that direction.

2) TS is NOT paper work. It's about demonstrating process control and capability to provide for the customer so that he won't have problems in doing his business

3) no buy-in from other managers, employees. TS implementation is doomed to fail if it is outsourced to the quality department. The TS-QMS can only run if all employees give their contribution.

4) getting advise from the wrong consultant!

5) implementing the TS-QMS in parallel to doing your day-to-day business operations. TS-QMS is about your business, not an activity to get some paper posted on the company walls.

(i know, i know, easier said than done eh.. but that's the way it goes)

keep on diggin in the cove! this is the best site there is!

regards,
tristan

Hi, Tristan,

I understood that implementing TS QMS should in parallel to daily business operations and need cultural changes and perception/paradigm shifts.

If the management not towards this direction, and seems rely on me (one man show) to implement TS QMS, i personnally feel that i will be very difficult to fill up the gap of TS and not even able to make the system effectively implemented.

Thanks for your advise.

If the date to certified is recent,You'd better hire another experienced QA engineer to impliment the TS system.
If the time is sufficient, you may carry out a training and studying.I think, step by step you will success in cerifying

Your management will need to allocate resources to either bring in another experienced person or bring you "up to speed" sufficiently for the TS implementation.

That would likely require taking a lead auditor class, which would show competence to do audits, but could also help you understand what is needed that your system does not have.

Not having involved management more prior to this point is going to make this problem more difficult. You may need to start with this awareness building before you can get the message across that you need resources.

Hi, Maine,

Thanks for your advise, I think you are right, I need to create awareness training to the group, before I can proceed further this TS QMS implementation.

But I still think that I need another experience QA guy to assist me, otherwise i will be overloaded beside daily operation control activities.

Thanks.

I'm interested a bit around the circumstances of your plight. Any reason in particular two of your main players left? Is there something you need to be watching for?

As Jennifer alluded to, if your company is serious about getting and maximizing the value of the certification, they are going to need to expend some resources. Look at what is going on, and what needs to be done. Ask management to expend the resources. This is not/cannot/should not be your one-person war to wage everyday, on top of everything else.

Also as Jennifer mentioned, taking some auditor classes will greatly benefit you, and will be necessary in developing a successful internal auditing program.

Let no one deceive you, it's going to take some time and money to accomplish this certification. However, if done correctly and managed well, it will prove to be a wise investment that will grant economic returns for a long period of time.

Hi, Millie6901,

Yes, the awareness training is a needed to change the managment and the team prayer attitude and perception to this TS QMS.

In-fact, we just conducted the ISO/TS 16949 briefing by consultant and yet they still can't change yet at this moment.

Thanks.

Hi,BradM,

The two main prayer left the company becouse change of management recently, the culture and work environment very much different from last 20 years. Even the C.E.O, HR Manager, Material Manager, Engineering Manager all left the company too. Only left me the main prayer with the other two non-active manager steering the committe.

It make me hard to move the project.
