View Full Version : Accredited Quality Management Representative
AndyN 30th April 2007, 07:40 PM It seems to me that the (only) formal focus of Quality Management Systems training has been on the one and only 'accredited' courses being for auditors. This seems to me a bit like making all your QC folks the only ones with any qualifications and training. Since we're in the 21st century, should the market be encouraging individual certification as 'QMS Management Representative'?? (for example)
Jennifer Kirley 30th April 2007, 09:54 PM I'd ask "Accredited with whom?"
If it's accreditation with the same body that does colleges, I find it an interesting, and probably needless, marketing investment to become accredited. After all, would the course earn you a college class worth of credits? A reputable Lead Auditor class will already award CEUs, which can be used toward ASQ recertification and whatnot.
Later...
Okay, I looked it up and I see they're accredited with ANSI: Accreditation of QMS Registrars
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the American Society for Quality (ASQ) established the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) for registrars of Quality Management Systems to ensure that the marketplace, including buyers, sellers, and public, can rely on the competence of ANAB accredited bodies for their activities related to Quality Management Systems.
Policies and Procedures
The program's policies and procedures follow ISO/IEC Guide 61 "General requirements for assessment and accreditation of certification/registration bodies". The ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board is the U.S. accreditation body for management systems. ANAB accredits certification bodies (CBs) for ISO 9001 quality management systems (QMS) and ISO 14001 environmental management systems (EMS), as well as a number of industry-specific requirements.
ANAB is a member of the International Accreditation Forum and a signatory of the IAF multilateral cooperative arrangements (MLAs) for QMS and EMS. Through the IAF MLAs and the Multilateral Cooperative Accreditation Arrangement, ANAB cooperates with other accreditation bodies around the world to provide value to its accredited CBs and their clients, ensuring that accredited certificates are recognized nationally and internationally. The global conformity assessment system ensures confidence and reduces risk for customers engaging in trade worldwide.
I've used QMS before this accreditation and didn't figure they needed it. Well, I suppose since it's probably a competitive market and it can indeed be hard to know who to contract, the idea seems okay.

You want a Certificate as a QMS Management Representative?
Send your information, evidence of qualification and a nice gratuity to: (one of the Principles needs a Corvette and maybe this will help if enough is recieved in time)
Daily Safety, Environmental & Quality Inc. and they might be able to make you one out. I know the owners so just PM me and I'll get you the info.
Oh yeah, It's a real corporation, incorporated in Arkansas (check with the Secretary of State) and providing a 'certification' would be perfectly legal and just as good as anybody elses.
Sidney Vianna 30th April 2007, 11:22 PM I am surprised our friends at ASQ have not cashed in yet on CERTIFIED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM REPRESENTATIVE programs. The closest they have is the old CQMgr, now, Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence - CMQ/OE (http://www.asq.org/certification/manager-of-quality/index.html)

I think it's a very worthy idea. I question the reality of it. Many programs have a hard enough time getting internal auditor training paid for. As we all know, it would be worth the money, but convincing management of that would be another matter.

Yes, you're right. In so many cases, the level in the organization to which this roles has fallen, shows management don't want to care about an effective system.........so they're unlikely to want to pay for a course.....:notme:
