Welcome!

It's difficult to say exactly what a specfic auditor might ask for. I'm guessing that you mean an external, 3rd party auditor. As you will probably know we have Covers who do that job, so I'm sure they'll give you their take on this question.

IMHO, the idea of a process 'measurement' is a little bit of overkill. If we are talking about the ISO/TS 16949 requirements, then I would have thought you could have used the internal audit to interview people about their roles and responsibilities, if they know what the 'quality' objectives are, how the process is working towards those objectives, etc. Putting any kind of 'hard' measurement on the communication process is a force fit of the requirements, but since audit is under the measurement section of the standard, that should suffice.

Communication should be a closed-loop process.
What specifically is being communicated?
To whom?
Did they actually receive the message?
Were they able to interpret and act upon the information?

When for example a newsletter is used to communicate system and process specific performance measurements; are the Associates able to interpret this information? Can they explain (in their own words) what the message means to them? Unfortunately, many communications systems are one-directional, the gap in the feedback loop is not always "closed."

Hope this helps.

Hi,
Several ways of measuring the internal communication of a quality program is through direct interviews with the employees. In a Health and Safety audit here in Alberta (Canada) the auditor have 20 minute interviews. Our last quality surveillance audit the auditor chatted with several people in the organization and was able to determine the level of communication throughout the company. If you are getting through with the communication then it will be evident to the auditor. Other measures are signed meeting notes and awareness sessions, these with interviews are good examples of the communication process. Remember if it not written down it did not happen.
