Yes ,
As per clause 4.3.1 (Planning for hazard identification, riskassessment and risk
control )and 4.3.2 (Legal and other requirements ) in OHSAS -18001 Std. company should follow applicable std which is mentioned in Factory act as per type of company.(Hazardous and Non Hazardous company).

I hope it helps.
Take care,
Mujeeb

I think what he was trying to say is that the PPE must meet your local legal requirements. For instance, in Canada there are set standards for almost all types of PPE's.

Why is a standard important? Then we know they will work in the prescribed area and we know we are using the correct PPE for the situation.

Yes, I am involved in our H&S system development as well:nope::bonk::truce:

Hi,
As far as my knowledge is concerned, it has not been mentioned directly in the OHSAS Std. that we should follow national and international std. for PPEs but If you refer clause 4.3.2 (Legal and other requirements) it clearly indicates that we have to comply our local legal requirement.
I also would like to suggest you please refer factory acts book of your state.

Please keep into mind that The purpose of personal protective equipment (PPE) is to protect individuals during exposure to any hazard

Here, I am giving you the example of Eye/face PPEs
All Eye/Face Protection – Equipments designed to provide protection to the face and eyes during exposure to such hazards as flying particles, molten metal or sparks, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, or potentially injurious light radiation - so thickness of PPEs is most important as per the Standards.

In some instances OSHA standards refer to specifications by ANSI, ASTM and other organizations with regard to PPE.
