Hello Covers,
I am looking for a "Balanced Score Card" training program (commercially available or other) for small businesses. Most of the programs I reviewed deal with using balanced score card software or are more suitable for larger organizations with adequate resources. The target audience for this training are the small "mom and pop" shops, retailers and very small manufacturing operations.
Thank you very much for your help.

Well, seems to me that training should be specific to the balanced scorecard methods they would be using.
I have the book "Keeping Score" and it provides little in the way of examples. Instead, the subject needs to be applied to each type of business so as to avoid the canned approach that gives consultants a bad image.
Maybe you canstart with a presentation like this one (http://www.w3j.com/6/what.html) and help these companies make and understand an approcah that really works for them.

Hi Jennifer,
Thank you so much for the response.
The training would be presented to a group of small business owners. I should have made that clear in my post. The training must be generic enough so that all Participants would come away with a better understanding and appreciation of the concept, and specific enough so that they can start implementing some of the tools themselves.
Greetings.

Okay, that clarification helps, thank you.
In order to do more than just introduce the subject I suggest you make some tools that they can actually use and adapt--with spreadsheets maybe--and include that in your training. Too often I've left a book or training session behind and said, "Okay that was nice--now what am I supposed to do with it?"
Show examples of dashboards that these people could use to communicate with their people in newsletters, slide shows or posters.
Balanced Scorecard is a direct subject for people like us, but voodoo to many other people without our kind of training. They'll need plain language and some appealing examples of how it's applied.

You may be interested in the two days worth of training materials I put together on performance measures, statistical process control, and balanced scorecards using SPC. It's at http://www.hanford.gov/rl/?page=1156&parent=1144
It was done under a US government funded project, so there are no copyright restrictions (see the document release form). You are welcome to make use of any of the materials. I was just at the University of Washington last week giving the course to financial staff at UW to help them with their balanced scorecard.
