View Full Version : CMM Reverse Engineering Scannning 3-D - IMS Impact with 4.8 version Virtual DMIS

We have an IMS Impact with 4.8 version Virtual DMIS with 3-D "Curves and Surfaces". I've heard rumor that verson 5.0 has an updated algorithm that eliminates inconsistancies when creating 3-D surfaces (cloud points). Does anyone have experience scanning 3-D in Virtual DMIS 5.0 or greater? Also, the Impact machine is about 5 years old. We are looking at upgrading to a better machine / software. What is the best CMM software per your opinion and how well does it work with reverse engineering / 3-D scanning? Lastly, does all 3-D scanning software create point clouds that have to be "patched" together in CAD software? Your experience and help is greatly appreciated.
