I'm filling out an 8D worksheet for a second tier auto supplier.
In section 7A "Address Similar Systems" there is a table with the following headings: "Process/Item", "Accountability", and "CIF #". I have searched high and low for "CIF #" and have come up empty. I really don't want to call the issuer for an explanation for fear of exposing my limited knowledge. Then too, the obvious sometimes escapes me. If anyone could enlighten me, I would much appreciate the response.

That is certainly new to me. Not sure if it is a capability acronym or not. Why it falls under Section 7: Prevent Recurrence, is beyond me. Anyway, I'd err on the side of caution and just call your supplier. It is probably some company specific acronym that only they know. It isnt native to the 8D process. You need to be less timorous about things that are out of your control. Better to ask questions.

You're probably right about being up front. I have an acquired fear of larger companies' quality system embroilments. Though in truth, I'm letting one bad experience (years ago) spoil the barrel. I pride myself on honesty, but I suppose trying to hide my ignorance is nothing more than an end-run and to no one's benefit.
ps: I hope your fabrications aren't of the communications variety. I'll bet you've heard that one before.

As it is under "Address similar systems" I would be willing to guess it is where they record their "Continuous Improvement Form #". Obviously, I am only venturing a guess and would agree with fabricator - ask the issuer.
