View Full Version : Dissemination of MSDS regarding your product in your company?

Hi
Question for the group. Who gives out your MSDS regarding your product in your company? Customer Support, Marketing, Quality, Technical Service? How is it documented?

Marketing received a request for a MSDS for one of our products and was instructed that the request had to be documented and routed to me - who handles the complaints. The rationale was that the information provided on the MSDS was technical in nature and also went along with promotion of the product.

So I was wondering how other companies view/record the dissemination of MSDS or their products to their customers.

We have an EHS Manager and he is the receiver and disseminator of MSDS sheets. He also is in charge of ISO14001:2004.

We keep a copy on our intranet, so basically whomever the customer asks can get it for him. Typically ends up being Sales, Technical, or myself, but occaisionally the Enviro Manager gets asked. Env is responsible for making sure it is current, through corporate.

OSHA's Hazard Communication standard (29 CFR 1910.1200) has specific requirements that every MSDS management system must meet. At our relatively small company, MSDS management is a function of regulatory affairs.

same here except for the ISO144001 part. We're not registered to that.
He does however make sure we remain a CESQG.

There are two issues here. You might want to evaluate the customer request and determine whether it is a "Complaint". Who sends out the MSDS is up to your organization, but it would seem logical that Customer Support would do it.

How about put it on a link on your website? Then, anyone can pull it down when they need it.
