First a little (I promise) background, about 2 years ago I was not happy with my position and had started searching for something else. I found an ad in a local newspaper and attached my resume and composed a nice cover letter type email. I didn't receive a response from my email. Our company hired a new Quality Manager that had a vision for both the department and the company as a whole and I was content.

Fast forward to about 2 months ago. I was tired of driving an hour each way to work not to mention the money I was spending in gas. I started to passively look for work. I went to several interviews and was not selected for a position that I thought was a perfect fit for. Needless to say that I was discouraged. One day, I checked my email and found that the president of the company had held on to my resume and cover letter for nearly two years responded to my email asking if I was looking for a job. We arranged a meeting and both agreed that I was the one for the job. I gave notice two weeks ago and completed my last day today. I start the new job on Monday. To those seeking a new position, I have a thought. Sometimes when God's answer is "not yet" all we hear is the "no"

I had something similar happen to me once. I interviewed for a QM position with a small company, and thought everything had gone pretty well, but wasn't hired. It turned out that for a number of reasons the company just didn't hire anyone. About two years later I had a call from the owner of the company who explained that there were demands being made on the company wrt a documented quality system that they were no longer prepared to meet, and offered me the job right then, over the phone (with a written offer following). It just goes to show that when some people say that they'll keep your résumé on file, they actually mean it.

At the risk of dating myself, I will remind you of the words of the song:

Que sera, sera.
Whatever will be, will be.
The future's not ours to see.
Que sera, sera.
What will be, will be.

Good luck. Good things come to those who wait.
