with the new manual, I am confusing many days on when to conduct a MSA study.
TS requires the gauge in control plan must do MSA study.
so when to conduCT MSA on a variable gauge ?
and when to conduCT MSA on a attribute gauge ?
in PPAP, MSA must be done on both variable and attribute gauge?
if there is no process capability study with the gauge, need I conduc tHE msa Study?

Hello hwang,
If your control plan lists both variable and attribute-type gauges, then you are expected to perform MSA studies on both types of gauges.

Hwang,
If you have many gauges that require an MSA, consider creating gauge families to reduce the number MSA studies you have to do.
You could also discuss with your customer and agree with him on the most effective way to do the MSA studies.

Hi,
usually initial MSA will be done during APQP , all the gauge in control plan should be considered in your MSA plan, no matter whether the gauge would be used for process capability study.
and MSA will be repeated regularly for continuous effectiveness verification, and irreguarly if new inspector or new gauge or new environment etc.
hope help

what for when MSA is conducted if there is no capability study needed?
And what the usage to do MSA on attribute gauge?

Hwang,
Attribute gages must be able to discriminate between "Accaptable" and not acceptable conditions. When you do the study, you should have parts that are across the limits and one or two out of limits. Remember, GAGING is a PROCESS with 3 main components, Appraiser, Equipment, and Parts. All three have to be accounted for in the study not just the gage.
The gage must discriminate properly irrespective of who is using it. I have done many of these studies and found that if the Attribute gage is designed well taking the particular attributes of the appraisers (Hand size, dexterity, etc.) into account, the studies are a formality. But you do not know if you have an effective gaging process unless you study it.
