Hi All,

I have a question. I do not see skip-lots referenced in this standard at all and I was wondering if it is still valid to do. I found a standard that has ANSI/ASQC S1-1996: An attribute Skip-Lot Sampling Program, but ASQ states on the web that it is only to be used with the Z1.4-1993 version. It does not say we can use it with the 2003 version. We have skip lot at this moment and dts (direct-to-stock) too, but these two things are not mentioned in the 2003 standard whatsoever. Can someone help me with documentation/websites to support that skip-lot sampling and dts is appropriate?

Welcome jjcgia,

Pending any response from our fellow Covers, perhaps you may want to look at some previous threads on this & related topics here (http://elsmar.com/Forums/forumdisplay.php?f=114).

You can also go to the search function (http://elsmar.com/Forums/search.php) to do a search by keying - skip+lot+sampling

I think it depends on what "valid" means in your situation. If you have customers that require Z1.4, and the standard doesn't allow for what you want to do, then you probably have your answer. On the other hand, if use of the standard isn't by customer mandate, you should feel free to do what you think is prudent. If this is the case, and you do opt for relaxed requirements, you should do so when history indicates that the costs of doing incoming (or other) inspection are not justified by the potential risks of relaxation.
