Anyone have nay ideas for a simple test for potential new hire for a low level part inspection position. Only tools realy used will be hand held mics and calipers, go/no-go gages.

samples of good and bad "parts" to be measured and sorted within a certain amount of time?

And have them write down the measurements to demonstrate that they can read the instruments accurately?

We use Hay Aptitude Tests obtained through Wunderlic, Inc.

Whatever you do make it standardized to avoid any potential crys of favoritism or predjudice.

We did this recently when we hired some QC inspectors.
We out a few common parts out with a caliper, micrometer, depth mic, and some go/no-go gages. We had the prints and inspection plan for each part with a dims highlited on each. Gave a brief instruction on how to read the inspection plan. Then asked them to check the dimensions highlighted with tool indicated on the inspection plan.

Worked pretty well.

Hello Jerry,

The best "test" is to have your candidates actually measure your company's parts. Make sure that the tests actually represent the kind of work that the candidate-inspectors will be doing and that they are administered and "graded" in a similar fashion. As you may know, testing in North Carolina (and perhaps in other States) can have legal implications.
