USP sets standards for the quality of these products and works with healthcare providers to help them reach the standards. USP's standards are also recognized and used in more than 130 countries. These standards have been helping to ensure good pharmaceutical care for people throughout the world for more than 185 years. USP is an independent, science-based public health organization. As a self-sustaining nonprofit organization, USP is funded through revenues from the sale of products and services that help to ensure good pharmaceutical care. Ajit Basrur 12th September 2007, 05:58 AM The FDA and the USP have a long relationship of nearly 100 years, since the 1906 Food and Drugs Act and 1938 Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. Another point to be noted is both the FDA and USP are committed to protecting and promoting the public health. Read the speech given by Jane E. Henney, ex - Commissioner of Food and Drugs during the USP function in Washington in year 2000 - http://www.fda.gov/oc/speeches/2000/quinquennial41500.html that mentions further on this relationship. |
