If a material includes a substance that is "duty to declare" do I need to take some other action in addition to submitting the IMDS?

View Full Version : 'Duty to Declare' substance - Is submission of IMDS sufficient? zzz123 17th September 2007, 10:47 AM If a material includes a substance that is "duty to declare" do I need to take some other action in addition to submitting the IMDS? RDues 20th September 2007, 06:11 AM Hello zzz123, the answer is very easy: there is no other need for action after you have declared it to your customer, unless the declarable substance is also a prohibited one. In this regards the Reference for declarable/prohibited substances is the automotive GADSL list available at www.gadsl.org. Ralf Kales Veggie 20th September 2007, 04:09 PM I would like to suggest also that you review your customer requirements as well. For example Ford has an RSMS 2007 document, which lists the GADSL substances applicable to Ford with a column explaining upcoming changes (from declarable to prohibited). An example is Lead in bearing shells: prohibited after June 30th 2008. Your company has to be aware of these upcoming changes, so that design changes can be made and implemented before substances become prohibited. The GADSL does not mention this fact. Ford has listed other substances as well that will change classification. |
