Expect long work days and a difficult time based exam.

What did the course advertising tell you to expect?

Expect to learn a lot about the standard and auditing. You will need to concentrate for long periods and listen to what the tutor tells you.

As for the exam, it will be fair but as Randy says, time management is essential. Remember to answer all of the questions and answer the question asked (not one that sounds similar). The marker can't give marks for empty space and cannot give marks for answers which do not correspond to the question.

Also expect to have fun - its the best way to learn.:)

Hello Abbeyaro,

In addition to the great points that my Fellow Covers made, expect to meet people that are in the same boat as you are. What a great opportunity to learn from them and their experiences. Network as much as you can, get their business cards, seek out different people to do the group excercises with, take lunch with different folks, etc. Any contact can be a resource for you, and you can be a resource for them. In addition, you can also point out The Cove Forums as a resource for further learning.....;)

Good Luck with the course. You'll do well.

Stijloor.

Thanks so much for your advice on what to expect from the training and the exam. I'll try my very best.

Thanks for your advice on networking

As Randy said, expect long hours. If I had to do the training all over again, I would stay at a hotel close to the training. When I had my training my commute was about 45 minutes, which does not sound like a great amount of time, except for the long hours and homework that was associated with the class.
Also be familiar with the standard prior to attending the training.

Having taken both the 94 and 2000 version LA training, I found the 1994 version MUCH more difficult with much longer hours (this may have been due to the size of the class). In 1994, there were just over 20 ppl. In 2000, 6.

Overall, Randy is right. The days are long with lots of sitting and listening broken up my team work or individual work. The exam is timed; however, I have never had problems with the time (in both cases finished early and passed both times on the 1st try).

Good luck! It is also an excellent chance to network!

Now if you take a course where I'm the tutor you'll be relaxed, and actually laugh occasionally:yes:

would have really love to be in your class where i'll be relaxed and at the same time learn alot. But my colleagues and i are planning to take the training with BSI uk but getting a visa for the trip is proving a little difficult from the high commission. We might probably consider BSI America if that for the UK is difficult getting the visa. Please Advice

The UK? Naaaaaaaaaa. Come to the US instead (but use BSI of course).

We have cold beer, Salma Hayek, Tony Stewart and Wal-Mart. (Not necessarily in that order and with substitutions if desired)

Try it, you'll like it.

I was tutored by a person on the TC 176 committee with a dry British sense of humour. If you "get" british humour, you kill yourself laughing - if you don't...well, you spend most of the time figuring out if we are laughing at you.

We also got some excellent insight about the difficulties in getting people to agree to single words (like competence!).

I had my Lead Auditor training at RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology)), it given by BSI. The course was lead by Colin Irving, very British, his role play of the closing meeting was very humorous.

We have a few of those around the office....I know the feeling:lol:

I'll really love to come have the course in the US but getting the US visa is another issue. Don't know if the embassy will issue the visa for the training. And with BSI in America , is it residential?

Have you tried Italy, Spain or France? They are much closer (and maybe easier to get a visa for?).

Or how about South Africa ?

Check The South African Quality Institute... they have a LA course in December... http://www.saqi.co.za/Training_ThisMonth.asp

I´m not sure if it is an IRCA approved course, but it´s worth checking into...

Pardner I've had about a dozen folks from Nigeria in the last year or so. Just had one guy who attended a course in Memphis.
