I've just noticed that attempts to read the "New folks take a minute..." thread in the Coffee Break forum result in nothing but a blank page. This happens in both Firefox and IE7. Anybody else seeing the same issue?

Works fine for me - Firefox, Camino and Safari on a Mac.

Anybody else seeing the same issue?I just used both browsers you used, clicking on each of these choices, linking from "posts last 24 hours" screen, which all worked:

"go to first unread post" link button at front of thread title
main listing which leads to post #1
"go to last post" link button which appears after last poster's name in column two
each page number from 1 through 97 which appear at upper right of each page of postsDid you start your linking from another area?

I've tried every possible link on both of my computers with the same result. The only thing the two computers have in common is the DSL connection, which is direct (Ethernet) for my desktop and wireless for the laptop. I've also cleared caches, rebooted, turned off firewalls, and done a voodoo dance.

I'll believe it when I see it on YouTube...

I had the camera going just in case someone didn't believe me.

God (Great Deity/Supreme Being/Creator) makes everyone equal at birth. From that point on, He/She/It plays favorites!:mg:

Looks like you missed the cut. Maybe you could play for Notre Dame?;)

Computer Problem voodoo dance version 2.1

Ah... I think I know the problem. You performed the "My computer keeps locking up at the Windows screen" dance, which obviously will not fix your view problem. Check your latest drivers, and perform the most current voodoo dance 3.1. That should alleviate the problem.

Was this post helpful? Yes:yes: No:nope:
:tg:

Seriously, I have not had any trouble on my computers on that thread. That's pretty weird.

After having tried everything I could think of to solve this issue, I just accidentally discovered that it only happens when I'm logged in. If I log out I can access the New Folks forum with no problems, but when I'm logged in it's no go. The behavior is the same on both of my computers.

This is very strange. No one else is reporting the problem and it 'doesn't make sense' considering that and that nothing has been changed in quite a while. Do you have a friend near you whose computer you can check the page on?

I have no friends. :tg: Seriously though, that will be next, although I can't understand what kind of hardware issue would be affected by whether I'm logged in or not. I should be able to try it tomorrow.

Just an update; I can now access the New Folks forum from both of my computers while logged in. I have no idea what was going on before, but it seems it must have been something local, I guess. Computers is funny.

My ability to see the New Folks thread lasted only for that one attempt, and I more or less gave up on it. It's interesting that I'm able to access the thread on both of my computers if I'm not logged on, and I tried it a while back on a friend's computer with the same results. Just to test the point, I just registered under a different name (Alvin Smith) and was able to access the thread while logged on under that name. So the problem occurs only when I'm logged in under my own user name. This is not an earthshaking issue, and my surfing through the forums isn't affected in any other way.

Are you sure you cleared cookies, cache, etc.? I cannot understand why that one thread would be problematic.

I've tried every adjustment known to computer science. I'm pretty good at troubleshooting issues like this, and controlling the variables. Like I said, it's not big deal, but I thought it would be of interest.

I know you have said you've tried everything... just wondering: Can you see all threads with titles as long (or longer) than the introduction thread?

Not sure what the length of the thread title might have to do with the issue, but a quick test of this one (http://elsmar.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=5747) didn't yield the same problem. It's really not a big deal.

Well, I don't know what it would matter, either. I do like a challenge, though.:tg: All I know is that thread has a long title and it's the longest running thread (with the most posts and all) we have.
