hello...me again

I have a question about infrastructure of papaya production area. I went to papaya farm this morning. Normally, after harvested papaya are cut down, the papaya will place in water tanks for cleaning. Then, clusters are placed on trays for packing. I was realized the water tank and packing process area are open area and just next to papaya farm (1 meter between the water tank and the farm). I found a lot of dust on the surrounding area as well. Not only that, after 2 meters away from the packing area, there is a refrigerated room and truck was there transferring the papaya from the refrigerated room. I can smelt exhaust gas produced by the truck at packing area. Is the environment allowed to process papaya (even the papaya are protected by skin)????

A clean room class 10,000 for papaya handling?:mg: I mean no disrespect, but it seems to me that you are one of those quality professionals with some experience in ISO 9000, dealing with ISO 22000 issues, but does not have the working experience.

Hello kimpc82,

I have no experience in papaya processing and associated food safety concerns. I did a search and found this (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=processing+papayas+food+safety+issues&btnG=Search). May be of help, may be not. Best advice: study the appropriate standards that apply to your specific business.

u r right, sidney vianna. sorry for stupid question....No need to apologize. My response was a little harsh, but the question stroke me as someone trying to assess an agricultural environment potentially affecting the product safety/quality, with an expectation of industrial levels of cleanliness.

This sounds more like an occupational health issue than a food safety problem. Diesel fumes or combustion engine exhaust emissions could obviously affect the health of the workers, but due to my ignorance about "long term health effects of fumes and soot on papaya eaters", I only conjecture that this is a non-issue, in terms of food safety. After all, I would dare to estimate that 97.65% of papaya eaters cut the skin off.

By the way, the two of you have similar writing styles. ;)

You should do it the old-fashioned way and get a grant from the Federal Government, duly lobbied by PAPAGAIA (The Papaya Growers Association of Indo-Australasia), over inflate your expenditures and pocket the balance. A lot of people make a living with tax payer money funded grants....:notme:
