Can anyone tell me what the calibration record retention period is for ANSI / NCSL Z540.1 ? I have an upcoming audit and the agenda is referring to this ANSI document. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Penny:
I don't have the Z540 in front of me, but I'm going to say that you will have to consider a couple of things related to record retention:-

- Regulatory/statutory requirements, related to the equipment use.
- Customer requirements (if applicable) which may be driven from the above.
- Your system which will require you to maintain sufficient records to demonstrate, over time, that the calibrations are free of adverse trends due to instability, bias etc.
- Your accreditation body may also require a minumum period of retention too.

I'm speaking of the technical records, of course.

Hello Penny,

I am not a specialist in the "laboratory field", but I found this. Could this (http://www.a2la.org/checklists/17025_cal_checklist.pdf) be of help?
If not, I'll try harder....;)

I also searched on ANSI / NCSL Z540.1 Record Retention and found this (http://www.google.com/search?q=ANSI+/+NCSL+Z540.1+record+retention+&hl=en&start=10&sa=N).

It was my understanding that you should keep the records for the life of the tool plus some amount of time.
