Our company is producing auto parts and due to the raw material change, our customer asked our to forward SREA. My questions are:
1. what is the difference between production parts and service unique parts?
2. must we clarify the price variation?

Welcome to the cove Kalven KG.

For your first question I have attached the definitions form the Ford instruction on SREA - April 5th 2004:

Quote:
5. DEFINITIONS
5.1 WERS: Worldwide Engineering Release System
5.2 SREA: Supplier Request for Engineering Approval
5.3 PPAP: Production Part Approval Process
5.4 STA: Supplier Technical Assistance
5.5 SIM: Supplier Improvement Metrics
5.6 PVT: Plant Vehicle Team
5.7 "Supplier": unless otherwise, noted "supplier" is a supplier external to Ford.
5.8 FCSD Service-Unique parts: Parts released by FCSD and not common with production parts (i.e. remanufactured components, service chemicals, etc), and past model parts no longer used in production or for Original Equipment warranty repairs, but still produced for service.
Unquote.

FCSD means Ford Customer Service Division

For your second question.
This is more difficult. Sales politics...... How much will the price be influenced and what shall we tell the customer?
IMO : This has to be decided by your sales dept.

Hope this helps.
Best regards,

Antoine

With reference to your second question, I have just looked the version of the SREA1638 form that I have and it makes no mention of cost changes.

HOWEVER, I will put a lot of money on you being asked to produce cost breakdown information using the new material. Ford, like all OEMs, are VERY hot on cost now, so anywhere they think they might save money or incurr extra cost is of importance to them!

I have also just checked a region specific form and it specifically asks whether the cost will be affected by the change.

It depends on region as to whether the cost info is part fo the SREA process, but purchasing will be in touch soon, regardless!!!!!
