View Full Version : We're certified AS9100 / AS9006!!! Software and Service Provider for Aerospace

After two years of working on creating an AS9100/AS9006 compliant QMS and adapting it to be flexible enough to meet our unique position as a software and service provider for aerospace customers (who might have their own QMS) we finally achieved it!! Our situation *seems* to be fairly new (to the auditing community) but not unique. At least that was my impression.

The biggest issue is in the fact that we don't produce a tangible product. We provide 'services' to our customers which means that we may need to use their QMS, our QMS, or some combination.

The second issue has to do with the production of software (hence AS9006). This has ramifications on defects and storage, among other things. The end result was that, even though AS9006 is a software related addendum to AS9100, there was still a level of confusion between the auditor and us on how best to interpret and meet the standard.

I'm mentioning this as a note to others that come this way and want to become AS9100/AS9006 compliant.

Anyway, we made it and the auditor said that they really liked our QMS! Actually, I think we were 100% compliant! I should note that this forum was very helpful and I thank those of you who've helped me (and my colleagues) with various questions.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Congrats.

Just for your information, be aware that AS9006 might transition into a harmonized standard for deliverable aerospace software. I believe that the preliminary designation is AS/EN9115. And the IAQG is considering a specific certification scheme for that Standard, in addition to 9100/9110/9120.

Also, don't forget to assign an administrator in the OASIS database. The OEMS are "cracking down" to enforce certified suppliers assign an administrator, and I see that your organization has not done that yet.

Thanks Sidney and Stijloor.

Sidney,
I'm a little confused though. By "harmonized", do you mean AS/EN9115 = AS9100 + AS9006? In other words, does this mean that we would be certified for AS/EN9115 rather than AS9100?

For example, AS9003 and 9006 are only adopted in the Americas Sector of the IAQG. The second digit of the standard number designates if the document is adopted internationally or not.

IF 9115 becomes a certifiable standard, it is still unclear if it would be a stand-alone document or an augmentation of 9100.

I guess we'll just have to watch. I would assume that our auditing service would probably be watching for these kinds of changes and contact us for additional auditing services, if EN9115 were approved.

Congrats! As you can see, now that you have accomplished this someone will come up with more for you!:lmao:

Really, good work, enjoy the feeling of accomplishment for as long as you can and bask in the limelight.
