We road warriors must be immune to this stuff; consider what else is/could be contaminated:

Toilet seat
Bathtub/shower stall
Bathroom floor
Vanity tops
Carpet
Bed/Comforter
Ice bucket
Door handles
Light/Lamp switches
Remote control
Telephone handset
etc.

...well, lovely...this confirms my long held suspicians. I have actually seen some glasses with lipstick on them. Since I travel a lot, I generally try to avoid certain things. I recommend the following:

Avoid glasses and cups. Use the wrapped ones, or get one from the breakfast area.

If the coffee maker does not look clean, you can run just water through it once. Not sure if that suffices, but it is a start.

Strip the bedspread off, and avoid using the blankets and new, downy comforters. Only the sheet gets washed between guests.

Wipe down the TV remote.

Don't place food on the table and desk surfaces. Place a napkin down, or washcloth.

Anyone have any other tips?

...ahhh....I love to travel...

Helmut,

Have you ever seen something like this (http://www.magellans.com/store/Health___Personal_Care___HygieneSC678?Args=)?

It looks like a cool device. Maybe it will come to that.

I'm happy to say that I'm leaving the world of road warriors behind - at least for a while. However, I have encountered some pretty bad stuff. 'Something' in the bed at an Embassy suites (!) - I never really checked between the sheets before, unchanged sheets since the last guest slept there, collections of body hair behind the bathroom door (a common 'finding') and, of all things - ants on the 3rd floor!

Maybe I should get a 5th wheel and see the USA and avoid the perils of hotel stays.......

Aha! The news programs picked up this story a few days ago -- can't recall which network aired the report, but it may have been an investigative reporter in the Cleveland Ohio area that did an undercover investigation and hidden camera video of hotel personnel cleaning a few 4 and 5 star hotels.

Sad, but true, and never drink from the glasses unless you routinely drink from the toilet bowls, as they have a tendency to be cleaned/washed/sanitized with the very same rags or used washcloths left behind by the previous guests.

Ah, the joys of being a road warrior! Gotta love it!!!!

So, by now, shouldn't we have developed some superior level of immunity or something?

So, in other words, it's safe to use the glasses...

...it doesn't hurt to rinse them in a good scotch or bourbon, first...

So, in other words, it's safe to use the glasses...Is this cat drinking or fishing?
