View Full Version : Explain the meaning of 8.2.4 Monitoring and Measurement of Product

Hello,

Can anybody explain the meaning of the following paragraphs of 8.2.4:

a) When the organization uses sampling inspection as a means of product acceptance, the plan shall be statistically valid and appropriate for use. The plan shall preclude the acceptance of lots whose samples have known nonconformities.....................

b) Product shall not be used until it has been inspected or otherwise verified as conforming to specified requirements, except when product is released under positive-recall procedures pending completion of all required measurement and monitoring activities.

What's the significance of the blue-marked sentences? What does these mean in practical terms?

:thanks:

a) Whichever sampling plan you use the accept/reject decision must be based on zero defects. If any defects or nonconformities are found the entire lot must be rejected.

b) You may periodically need to release product to the production area before all the tests/results are completed. This is saying you must have a positive-recall procedure which is followed in that event. All the tests/inspections must be done and if a failure results, you must have a way to stop the product from being used in production.

Hope this helps.

Acceptance sampling plans include a sample size "n" and an acceptance number "c" This is saying c=0

Positive recall means you would be able to find all the material that you released before inspection, if you later find that the inspection results indicated the product was no good. In effect, it means some sort of traceability.

Thanks a lot, Duke and Dave. Your explanations are really good and absolutely clearly to understand - also to a non-technician like me! .:applause:
