View Full Version : Midwest Covers - How Are You Managing in this Dreadful Weather? (Dec 2007)
GStough 12th December 2007, 11:26 AM We've seen on the news this week how the awful ice storms have struck the US Midwest :mg:, and I know that we have some Covers who live in this region. I hope everyone is managing to get through this terrible weather.
Please, be safe and drive carefully!

I live in southeast Wisconsin, and it hasn't been too bad here. We got about 10 inches of snow a week or so ago, and a few inches more since, but the bad icy stuff bypassed us pretty much.

Good! I'm glad to hear that. :)

Thanks. Me too! :D
Jennifer Kirley 12th December 2007, 11:56 AM Me too me too! I remember the 1998 ice storm pretty well. I was out of power for 10 days and the temps dropped to zero--brrr!
:topic: My sister and mother live together in Chelais Washington, where that big flooding happened this past week. It turns out their home is built on just enough of a hill to escape the flooding and the beasties are okay. Thank goodness! I was calling shelters and things last week and finally got word on Friday. But, just down the road a dairy farm lost its entire 2,000 head herd. :mg:
I hope everyone will be okay. I'd prefer 2 feet of snow any day.
psyched1 12th December 2007, 03:24 PM In St Louis we have been lucky not to have a repeat of last years ice storm. Some were without power for a month. Good old Amren UE who requested a rate hike that summer.

I've visited STL twice since Oct. 2006, and it is one of my favorite cities. My boss is from that area and still has family there. Hopefully, this one will move on off of the radar without any more damage. :cfingers:
Bobh@pte 12th December 2007, 05:47 PM Michiganders have a saying; If you don't like the weather, wait an hour and it will change. Not bad in southern michigan so far this year. Just cold!!!!
psyched1 13th December 2007, 09:33 AM I've lived in Mass, New Hampshire, New York, Kentucky, Mississippi, Colorado, Tennessee and Missouri and I have to admit Missouri and the St Louis area has been my favorite. If you have kids the Muesuems and Zoo are free. There is outstanding night life and a great sports atmosphere not to mention great golf courses. St Louis is very multicultural and you cannot beat the Hill for Italian food.
The public school system is a bit behind (my kids all attended private $chool) but you cannot beat the price of housing in this area. The house we own now is 4 bedrooms 2 1/2 bath ten years old sitting on 4 acres and cost 123K 5 years ago. would have cost 750K in Mass.
If only they had a beach and deep sea fishing it would be perfect!

I think we've changed that quote to waiting 30 minutes :lmao: And NEVER listen to the weather man!
We got 6-12" in my area. Just all depends on where you are. I live about 15 miles from Lake St Clair and we got about 6" but about 6 miles west of where I live (where I work) we got about 8 or 9" of snow.
Thankfully no power outages in our area :D
Mustang 18th December 2007, 03:27 PM We got about 10", but my little Escape plowed through everything (I even got to laugh as I went by a couple of big 'ole pickups that were stuck. I didn't know you could buy those things in 2-wheel drive!).
Funny thing, almost all schools were closed on Monday, except for Grosse Pointe. The local news ran an article about all the complaints they got from those students whining about how it wasn't fair that they had to go to school! Talk about a sense of entitlement!
AndyN 18th December 2007, 04:15 PM No problem here is SE Michigan, but then again, I drive a Land Rover..........;)
GStough 18th December 2007, 04:23 PM I'm glad to hear that y'all are managing well. The Tennessee Valley area is experiencing a cold front with lows in the 20s and highs in the 40s-50s, but it's supposed to warm up to the 60s again over the weekend. :notme:
Gail Former 19th December 2007, 08:42 AM Fortunately here in my part of Indiana the weather was kind of a fizzle. Good thing, because these folks never get enough snow to practice on, so watching the snowplow drivers bounce their plows down the road sets my Michigan teeth on edge.
When I first moved to Indiana I missed the snows of West Michigan. Not any more. I'm just thankful that I can leave the shovel in the barn most of the winter.

Yeah them rich brats had to whine about something :lmao: I still don't see why schools were closed that day, I was able to drive to work without any problem and I drive past at least 3 schools!
