View Full Version : 13 Dec 2007 - Stuck in Boston
Marc 13th December 2007, 09:26 PM In case you're wondering.... I'm stuck in a snow storm in Boston. As you might guess my 6PM flight was canceled. I brought my portable, but for some reason it doesn't want to send out emails... Just spent 5 hours going 20 miles (all expressway), just got to my hotel and I'm bushed. I should be back online tomorrow afternoon (7 am flight out).
Luckily, snow has almost stopped.

Good Luck Marc! :)
Have a safe trip back home!

Marc 13th December 2007, 09:38 PM Well, I knew it would happen. I packed my portable but no clothes so I'll be a bit stinky in the morning. I almost cancelled, but it was an important meeting so I figured what the heck. I should have planned to stay the night. I was hoping I could get a 3 PM flight out but it started snowing earlier than forcast. As it turned out I wouldn't have made it anyway.
I'm a bit goofy right now, was up at 3am for an early flight here this AM and after sitting in traffic for about 5 hours - Well, I remember why I don't like to travel... But - I may be back on the road soon. I should have been smart enough to pack a bag just in case... darn, sometimes I am REALLT dumb. But, at least I did bring my portable. Now if I can only get outgoing email to work...

Yes, you were conspicuously absent, especially during the 6-7am window. Thanks for keeping us informed and have a safe journey back.
The Taz! 14th December 2007, 07:55 AM As a life-long Red Sox fan, I'm not sure the word "stuck" is appropriate. . . LOL
I'll tell you my definition of "stuck". . . on 9/11/01, I was at 35,000 feet about 100 miles from the nearest airport when the call came in to land all planes. . . I have been a performing musician for over 40 years, and was "stuck" in Nashville, TN of all places for a week (cancelled flights every day) without my sax ( I DID have clothes though on this trip fortunately) . . . . well. . . needless to say. . . "I don't leave home without it!" Old Dirty Gertie has logged alot of miles since then.
I feel another thread germinating. . . Where were you on 9/11/01?
Marc, You could have been "stuck" in NYC. . . .LOL :lmao: I DO feel for you. . .hope you make out OK. .
try2makeit 14th December 2007, 09:08 AM Friend of mine who lives in Connecticut, left work yesterday at 2 pm. Normally it takes him 45 minutes to get home. He did not get home till 9 pm last night.
Sorry to hear about you being stuck Marc. Hope you can get moving today.
Randy 14th December 2007, 09:35 AM I always look forward to and relish the memories of those extra nights on the road:rolleyes:
Yeah, right:lol:
I feel for ya Marc 'cause I've been there myself (I have to go to St. Louis Sunday so maybe I'll get to share that experience as well)
However, where I'm at in Orlando it's a nice 75 and partly cloudy.............
RCBeyette 14th December 2007, 12:32 PM I was supposed to be in Tampa until Wednesday next week, but I missed my bed, my dog and just felt I could accomplish more if I was at home. Dallas was freezing on Sunday/Monday and I'm lucky I was able to get out Dallas with all that fog on Tuesday! Tampa was Wednesday/Thursday - Toronto only received a few centimetres of the white stuff so my plane was able to leave Tampa. NJ-ians weren't so lucky - their flights out of Tampa were cancelled yesterday.

Sounds about right, I left work at 2pm from MA for a normally 40 minute trip to CT, took me 5 hours thanks to the Springfield bottleneck. If ever I hated a city it's got to be Springfield, it always smells rank when you drive past and the traffic on a good day is always bottled up there. I think they designed it that way on purpsose so travellers get a good whiff of their sewage plant.
Well, there are worse places to be stuck than in Boston...Springfield for instance....
RCBeyette 14th December 2007, 12:42 PM I had to fly to Tampa from Dallas via Charlotte. The worst part for me was a coworker and friend was at our Charlotte plant and had fresh brownies waiting for me if I was stuck in Charlotte for some reason or other. But no, I was a professional and actually caught my plane to Tampa. :( Oh the sacrifices I make! Brownies!

Luckily, snow has almost stopped.Ack! I hope you are able to get back before the next wave hits. Sure is turning out to be a stormy season already.
Kevin H 14th December 2007, 03:53 PM Marc, sorry to hear about your unplanned stay. Getting stuck, or extended is no fun.
I remember business traveling days well, as well as the joy of driving through Massachusetts. In the mid 1980's I was a field engineer working out of an office in Acton, MA. Unfortunately, the salesmen who kept me busy ( & were the 2 continually vying for best sales for the region) were the guy in Southern Ct. and the guy in Maine.
Got stuck having to add a day on the road many a time, or having to do unplanned work. Makes me an absolutely lousy packer, as I'm always trying to cover most contingencies.
Marc 14th December 2007, 04:33 PM I'm had this happen in the past - well, I haven't had a 5 day 'stuck' or anything. A few 12 hour layovers, and such. And in this case it's my own fault. I saw the weather forcast and sat here (I just got back) at 3.30am trying to make myself click the Cancel Flight link but was - Well, stupid and decided to take the gamble. So....
I swear, though. I've never had a premonition or anything 'neat' like that, and I don't know that this was one, but I was close to turing around and going home all the way to the airport, and even when I got to the gate there I almost didn't board. I had a really weird, paranoid feeling. Then on the plane it got worse. It was really weird.
Well, I have 35 emails to go through so I better get back and finish that up. Then - Shower and clean clothes.
Craig H. 15th December 2007, 06:17 PM Well, FWIW, there is a silver lining for some of us. Here in middle Georgia we are now experiencing a rare and amazing phenomon. There are actually droplets of water falling from the sky, for the first time in recent memory. Not only that, but the map on weather.com seems to show this strange green, yellow, and red blob that will be overtaking the area for the forseeable future.
While I certainly empathise with those negatively affected by the weather, please find solace in the fact that it is not all bad.

Amen to that Craig! It's actually raining in Charlotte too!
Send us some more. We're drying out here. :mg:

There are actually droplets of water falling from the sky, for the first time in recent memory.I've been watching the drought areas since spring. Cincinnati had a very dry summer, but this fall has gotten a fair amount of rain.
Good luck! May the docks on Lake Lanier see water again!
Craig H. 15th December 2007, 08:46 PM The storm has actually knocked out my dish TV service, for a couple of minutes at a time. The TV is acting up now. This is so cool. Let it rain.
I know a couple of guys who have places on Lanier, and several folks around here with dry lakes. This is what we have been hoping for. Let it rain.
I can think of a few songs, but need help with attribution.
Let it rain down, down on me, let it rain down, down on meeee
Phil Collins, maybe? And there is aother from Clapton...
This rocks!

"Let it Rain" was on Clapton's first solo album, circa 1970.

Phil Collins I_Wish_It_Would_Rain_Down from the 1990 album "But Seriously."
Craig H. 16th December 2007, 04:06 PM Yes to both of you.
The lakes are up a little, even. Thanks, we needed that!
