You need a calibrated load cell that can be used in tension. The requirements are determined by the manufacturer of the UTM.,

I am not sure about the specifics of this particular equipment, but a quick Google search yielded pictures that look like most of testers I have seen.

How many load cells does this equipment utilize?

When you say "check", are you referring to a calibration of the equipment?

Basically, you can use weights that hang, and convert the weight to force.

You might can get away with just having the load cells calibrated.


However.....
many of these pieces of equipment are quite involved, and usually do well with a thorough maintenance. It may be worth it to consider contacting the mfg. on it. Minimally, find a competent lab to calibrate the system for you.

A lot of the modern machines are very user friendly and with direct digital read-outs and it's precisely because of this that it becomes difficult for you if you attempt to calibrate it on your own - even if you have a calibrated load cell.

Try searching the manual that comes with the machine to see if there's anything, otherwise just have them calibrated by the supplier or any calibration labs. If I remember correctly, it does not cost more than 100 USD per calibration (over here, table-top type for testing copper wires).

UTM manufacturers can help you with your question. My company (Zwick) has specialists who support our customers all over the world.

If you just mean routine "checks" then there are things you can do by yourelf. Talk to the manufacturer. If you mean verify or calibrate then get the experts to do it.

The other posts only referred to simple load checks. Please remember that UTM's also measure displacement.

You may be using an extensometer to measure strain /elongation.

...so your results may depend on these measurement systems too.

I am not sure what you mean with your comment about reliability.
