What is your location?
What type of internet connection do you have?
I assume you're using Windows. Which version?
Has this happened every time you post, or has this just started happening?
How long is a "...long time..."?

Location : India
OS: Win XP SP2
Internet Connection: Broadband [High Speed]

Long means - web page not appear/display untill refresh.

PS: It is happening only in 'Quick Reply'

PS: It is happening only in 'Quick Reply' The Quick Reply is an AJAX function. It should be quite fast.

I'm having similar problem as Ted. Similar operating systems also and yeah had to refresh every time. This is not a recent occurrence but sometime before the recent migration.

This is a problem I have not seen (Using MS Exploder at work and Firefox at home). I will have another look at it when I get home tonight. Incidentally, I had problems seeing anything at all from the Cove here at work yesterday due to long response times, but I am pretty certain that this was caused by an overambitious firewall).

I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.11, Win XP SP2, and just used Quick Reply to make this comment and had no issues.

Well what do you know... It did freeze, with the message "stopped". The post registered anyway, so I had to delete a few posts after my trials. If I Go Advanced it works just fine.

I use a fully updated Firefox v 2.0.0.11 with a fully updated Win XP sp2 setup.

Just trying it again; there still seems to be no problem on my end.

I notice the color button is inoperative when making a post and the font size is limited to 3 when in the WYSIWYG mode.

In the second choice of edit mode, I can add in the tags, thus
color
color
color
color
and the size
number=1
number=3
number=5
number=6
number=7
number=9
and even then, size seems to be maxed out at 7.

The font button (style of type) is operative
Comic Sans
Garamond
Arial Black

I cut the font size to 3 maximum in the menu to stop the use of fonts bigger than 3. All huge fonts do is take up 'real estate' on a page. There really isn't a need for a bigger font than 3. Yes, you can put in a bigger font manually, but the style sheet limits at 7 no matter what.

As to the color 'button', I think there's a bug. I noticed it once where all I could get was black. But, since I only noticed it once I hadn't investigated. I have put it on my 'investigate bug' list. Right now I can't reproduce the color pallet bug. Yes, there is a bug in the color pallet. I'm looking into it. I just reproduced it.

Hi,

I am using Firefox at home and at work. No problems at work, but at home I have several issues with slow and hanging firefox.

Did you check out Mozilla support pages (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs)?

I've had this issue with firefox at home when using quick reply, I've also had the same issue on other forums when using the quick reply there.

So far I have been thinking it's an AJAX issue.

I haven't seen this problem with either of my home computers using FF. I suspect that it might be something having to do with extensions, rather than an inherent FF bug. A lot of people load FF up with lots of extensions that never--or rarely--get used, but they create overhead and compatibility issues sometimes. Everyone who uses FF should periodically go through their extensions and uninstall the ones they don't use.

This seems to be a known issue. have a look at this link (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=197619) for more info.

There a lot more info (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=vbulletin+firefox+%22quick+reply%22&meta=) on it out there as well

Testing.

Added in edit: Thanks Marc. It works! I feel really bad that I took so long to fix this. I knew it was happening, and it sorta bugged me, but I didn't think to do a Google on it. For some reason I was not isolating it to the quick reply - I was thinking it happened in other places for some reason.

Shame on me...

Shame on you??? I don't think so considering how much time you dedicate to this forum so it is available for others. You can't do and think of everything yourself.

Yep and quick reply working as intended for me again :)

Yeah, but that was a WAY easy and quick fix. It's from the 'advertisement after 1st post' mod I did several years ago. I had almost forgotten about it as a file change (it wasn't a 'product' mod). It was from vB.org. I just read Steve M's method on the main vB site today as well.
