On Monday we had some very unusual January tornado action where I live in SE Wisconsin. There were a few relatively small areas affected, one of which was a mile or so from my house (which was unscathed). I heard from a couple of people who called to check up on us that one of my favorite local eateries--a place called Tacos El Rey--had been blown away. In scanning the Milwaukee headlines online that night, I came across this (http://www.todaystmj4.com/news/local/13543267.html)* from one of the Milwaukee TV stations, which seemed to confirm it. Problem is, Tacos El Rey wasn't destroyed, and is open as I write this.
The moral to the story is, never believe early reports of any kind of significant breaking news, because it's almost always wrong in one way or another. And in this case, 48 hours after posting something as certain which was obviously unconfirmed, the wrong information remains uncorrected.
*That link will expire sooner or later so for future readers, there's a story there with the heading, "Tacos El Rey Destroyed."
