Hello & Happy new year to all cove surfers.
The main activities of our company are developing, manufacturing and distributing chemicals for industrial use and consumer use.
We will be going for certification soon. I would like to know if we have to include distribution in our scope or can we limit the scope to "development and manufacture of chemical products".
Plse shed some light.
thanks

Yes, you can make the scope what you want in respect to the distrbution. However, I'll ask why you would want to do that. If you offer distribution why isn't it part of your QMS? Does it have problems? Do your customers want you to do distribution? Unless there's a very good reason and you actually have distribution as one of your processes, you really should include it.

I am in full agreement with Andy, first you tell us that one of the three major functions of your company is distribution, then ask if you can omit it from your scope of operations. What's up with that? You may have a bit of explaining to do when your registrar comes in to justify the exclusion.

Hi nidhi,
I echo what my friends have mentioned in the earlier post that when you say that the main activities include developing, manufacturing asnd distributing chemicals, why you want exclusion for distribution ?
Besides for a manufacture organization, if there is no distribution, what do you do with those chemicals
You may want to refer the Guidance on ISO 9001:2000 Sub-clause 1.2 'Application' (http://isotc.iso.org/livelink/livelink/3554792/1.2Application.doc?func=doc.Fetch&nodeid=3554792) issued by ISO for better clarification. It also gives various examples for better understanding.
