View Full Version : ISO 9001 Certification/Regist Database to find ISO9001 Registered companies

Here goes...
Is there a place I can go to find out if a company is ISO 9001:2000 certified? I tried the database on the Quality Digest site, but it doesn't seem to be up-to-date.

In my experience if a company is ISO registered, they will state so on their website. They may even have a copy of the certificate online as well.
However, if the company you are looking for does not have a website, I do not know how to search for it.

If you happen to know the registrar, some registrar websites have their own database... you can be straight forward and call the company and ask them... :notme:

I tried the database on the Quality Digest site, but it doesn't seem to be up-to-date.Nope. I don't know of any up-to-date and reliable database where you could get the information. Whosregistered.com and the QD database used to be "reliable", but not anymore.
The only reliable and up to date database for management system certificates that I know of is the Aerospace OASIS database. But it only lists certificates to the 9100, 9110 and 9120 Standards....

A salesperson of ours is doing competitive research so that probably won't work. :nope:

I agree with Sidney. The Quality Digest database includes duplications and many errors.
Quality Systems Update (QSU) used to have a database (CD ROM if I remember) only accessible if you had a ($$$$) subscription. Does anyone know if they still have the database?
Stijloor.
Sidney Vianna 17th January 2008, 10:26 PM Does anyone know if they still have the database? As long as someone has the $ to waste spend, I am sure they would have the database to sell. One has to understand that the data from QSU (same as whosregistered.com) is "voluntarily" provided by the CB's. The blurb on their website states
Submitting Data
In an effort to prevent fraudulent reporting, WhosRegistered.com Global receives all of its information directly from certification bodies — the firms that actually issue each management systems certificate. While we do not charge to list certificates, we do require that all data be submitted in an acceptable form, including a minimum level of information about each certified organization.
Some certification bodies do not yet submit their data to WhosRegistered.com — either because they do not know about us, they lack the technical capability to do so or they’re simply concerned about competitive issues. To ease such concerns, we’ve recently agreed to withhold the name of any certification body that asks us to do so. We still keep this information in our files and will be happy to pass along feedback on certified suppliers through the WhosRegistered.com Global feedback mechanism described elsewhere on this site.
Remember there’s never any charge to you or your certification body for basic listings. If your listing does not appear on WhosRegistered.com Global or your listing is incorrect, we urge you to contact your certification body directly. There is no better way to tell the world about your achievement than by being part of WhosRegistered.com Global. More and more purchasers worldwide are turning to WhosRegtistered.com Global when they need to find certified suppliers. When even ANAB does not seem to be able to force CB's to report their numbers, why would a voluntary database be reliable?
Over the years, some CB's have deliberately inflated their numbers and misrepresented the numbers of certificates to appear that they are "bigger" than they truly are. In the absence of a better indicator, number of certificates has been used, misused and abused as a "measure" of CB's importance in the market place.
Paul Simpson 18th January 2008, 04:54 AM Is there a place I can go to find out if a company is ISO 9001:2000 certified? Yes. To the CB they say they're registered with. The CB is bound to release information about companies they have registered.
Sidney Vianna 18th January 2008, 11:43 AM Yes. To the CB they say they're registered with. The CB is bound to release information about companies they have registered.Well....Even though it is a requirement of ISO/IEC Guide 62 and ISO/IEC 17021, some CB's make it VERY difficult for information to come out of their "public directory". One large CB that you are familiar with has "mandatory" fields when you search their online directory. One of the mandatory fields is the certificate number. Is that a joke? If I am searching for a certified organization, I would have to have their certificate number? Once again, a clear example that you can "comply" with the accreditation rules, but not really comply. I searched their directory for ISO 14001 certified clients in the USA and the results: YOUR SEARCH RETURNED TOO MANY RESULTS.
All of that is designed in a way that passes the AB audits, but makes it impossible for the competition to get the information for marketing campaigns, a.k.a. client poaching.
The system needs much more transparency to society at large. Where does one go if they would like to find out certificates that have been revoked?

I was thinking of a much more basic contact approach - the telephone call! You ring them up and ask them if xyz inc. is registered. This meets the obligation to provide public access.
There is a general point about transparency, though. I'm not convinced one way or the other.
If a company is certified is it anyone's business other than theirs? If they are abusing their certification then the customer has an avenue to complain (to their supplier). If they want to complain to the CB about their supplier they can. If they still have concerns they can contact the AB if necessary.
