Dear Experts,
I was looking for the definition of Standard, and I got the following:
Standard: The metric, specification, gauge, statement, category, segment, grouping, behavior, event or physical product sample against which the outputs of a process are compared and declared acceptable or unacceptable.
Kindly, may I have one example about, specification, gauge, statement, and behavior?
Many thanks in advance
Omar

Wiki is your friend:

A technical standard is an established norm or requirement. It is usually a formal document that establishes uniform engineering or technical criteria, methods, processes and practices. A technical standard can also be a controlled artifact or similar formal means used for calibration.

A standard can be developed privately or unilaterally, for example by a corporation, regulatory body, military, etc. Standards can also be developed by groups such as trade unions, and trade associations. Standards organizations usually have more diverse input and usually develop voluntary standards: these might become mandatory if adopted by a government, business contract, etc.

The standardization process may be by edict or may involve the formal consensus of technical experts.

For further details, look at: Standard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard)

Hello Salman,

Why one?Examples are aplenty.

Specifications: Dimensions given in drawings,Material specs.for a product, specs. of thickness, bonding & quality for special processes viz. Painting,Plating,Coating etc.,Specific percentage of ingredients in a material like carbon%age for DQ,DD,&EDD in steel.

Gauge: Plug/Thread Plug gauges,Feeler gauge,radius gauge,Depth gauge,Height gauge etcetra;the list is long.

Statement: Mission,Vision,Quality,Environment,Safety etc.

Behavior: Codes of conduct.

Hope this helps
