Hi Phil,

Try popphoto(dot)com. It has a lot of good info, including DSLR reviews, tests, tips, etc.

Happy shooting!

imho....do you have a community college nearby that has a photography class? This forces you to learn the basics and gives you a wonderful base on which to build your artistic talent.

Thanks for the replies. I already subscribe to Popular Photography (popphoto.com). The suggestion for a community college class (or something similar) would be better than a book, I am a better hands on learner.

You may also want to see if there is a local photography club you might join. This would give you another opportunity to connect with others where you may share tips, techniques, etc. as you learn and improve.

Another option is to contact a local photography studio and see if they offer any kind of classes or maybe even hire interns to help. I once offered to help a local studio during their busy season, and was able to go on a shoot (wedding) with them. That was a very educational experience! I appreciated the opportunity and they appreciated the extra pair of hands and camera.

If money is a consideration, I note many local CVS drug stores have set aside a day of the week where they have a digital photography pro on hand to answer questions and give tips for free. Why not call your local store and ask? When you meet the pro, you can also ask about resources in your area for more intensive instruction.

I have no connection with cvs, but it seems obvious they seek to sell digital photographers on the idea of converting digital photos to prints and geegaws like calendars, coffee mugs, and greeting cards!

I don't know about "pros." The CVS around the corner from my house has "Digital Sunday" with one or two of the regular clerks explaining how to spend money on... ...converting digital photos to prints and geegaws like calendars, coffee mugs, and greeting cards!

:lmao:my sentiments exactly. But, each location is different, you might learn something besides how to make a geegaw.

I usually check out http://www.dpreview.com/ There are all kinds of boards there for help/advice with cameras. (I hope it's OK that I post that link, if not sorry).
