View Full Version : Overcoming Management Misunderstanding - QMS not fully functioning

I'm part of the internal audit team at our mfg plant. We're currently ISO9000 certified and have an audit scheduled soon to become AS9100 certified. I recently discovered that a high-up manager has been telling employees at our plant that our upcoming registration audit is "so people will come and tell us what we are doing wrong so we can fix it and be ok when they come back in 3 months." :frust: (therefore action isn't required until after they come and tell us what is wrong)

He made it clear that he doesn't understand that our quality management system must be in place and functioning prior to the auditors arriving. We had nearly 30 nonconformances (and as many observations) found in our internal audit, and sufficient action has not been taken to close all of them.

I've looked through resources here, and everything has been amazingly helpful in answering our questions as we did our internal AS9100 audit/gap analysis. I hope you have some advice on overcoming this obstacle (presentations, websites, anything).

Hello lessablythe! Welcome to The Cove Forums! :bigwave: :bigwave:

Most Registrars provide a list of expectations for the registration audit. They just want to make sure that everything is in place for a successful audit. They do not want you to fail because something was overlooked. You may want to provide the list to that Manager.

In addition, Management Reviews should have been conducted. Was that manager present?

Hope this helps a little.

Stijloor.

Welcome to the Cove:bigwave:

Stijloor is right, every registrar is going to have a list of things that you must have in place before their initial audit. They will share that information with you. Share it with your management team (a management review opportunity). Hopefully there are others on your management team that are more in tune with reality? Enlist their assistance to improve the awareness of the rest of the team.
