Thanks to everyone here on this forum I was able to come up with a unique solution.
In addition to my current job duties, I am always on the look out for ways to save money for my company.
Last week, with some spare time away from my QC inspection duties, I was running this on one of our CNC punch presses. After I ran the first blank, I looked and noticed that the output could be doubled by simply changing the CNC program to pause after it ran one side and then rotate the blank 180 degrees to punch the other half.
I brought this up to the lead operator as well as the production manager, which they could easily do themselves, if they had the time. Not to take away from our engineering responsibilities who initially created the program, but this is just one instance where I could contribute something to save money.
I also thought of another option and that was if reprogramming the CNC wasn't viable, I could add an extra step in the job operation sheet and send the scrap back to the shearing department and tell them to cut in half and put them back into our cut-to-size inventory.
This is just probably one of many more instances to come, because of the enthusiasm you people here on the Cove help me to generate within myself to do better. :tg:
I'll even go as far as asking my production manager to teach me how to operate the shearing machine and do it myself if I have to.
