View Full Version : Finally! CE Mark capable in construction products
SteelMaiden 8th April 2008, 09:10 AM Whew, finally, after months of trying to find someone to certify us in construction products, we have our certificate of factory production control. Wohoo! believe me when I say that if you are not in the electronics field or medical, this is a tough job. Nobody seems to know what products actually do require CE Marking to enter the EU.
GStough 8th April 2008, 09:12 AM Congrats, Steel!! :applause::applause: Your hard work has paid off! Well done! :agree1:
ScottK 8th April 2008, 09:17 AM woot! Congratulations!
Who is your NOBO? Opinions to offer on them?
Dean Frederickson 8th April 2008, 09:28 AM CONGRATULATIONS STEEL.:applause::applause::magic: Are you on to bigger better things now, or is it a well deserved rest?
CarolX 8th April 2008, 10:08 AM :applause::applause::applause:

CONGRATULATIONS STEEL.:applause::applause::magic: Are you on to bigger better things now, or is it a well deserved rest?
Thanks all!
Our "NOBO" is UK CARES. They were very responsive to our need to move quickly once we actually found them. Kudos to them for pulling it all together from initial contact to initial assessment in about two weeks time. There are some other companies here in the states that I owe a debt of gratitude to, they moved up their surveillance audits to accomodate us. Thank you, whomever you are.
Dean, haven't you heard? There is no rest for the wicked. I've got NQA-1 auditors pounding at the door for surveillance audits now.
firnum 8th April 2008, 10:40 AM NICE WORK!!!! We are currently working on our CE cert in the MDD field.
ScottK 8th April 2008, 10:42 AM Thanks all!

Gotta love the surveillance... our NOBO is going to be here next week for re-certification to the QMS module.
The auditor we usually get is a really nice and smart guy, but he's thorough and makes us sweat it out.
SteelMaiden 8th April 2008, 11:39 AM All of our certification auditors are good, a great mixture of knowledge and common sense. For the most part I do not mind audits at all, they help to make us better. But, as with all things there are a a couple of companies, and one or two contract auditors for customers who feel it is their duty to tell us how to run our business.
Gert Sorensen 11th April 2008, 04:43 AM Thumbs up to you Steel! :agree1: Good work, and good to hear that you found a competent partner in the endeavour.
Have fun on the next audit!
:bigwave:
SteelMaiden 11th April 2008, 08:56 AM hmmmm, next audit, that would be Thurs and Fri next week. Nuclear stuff. But, the auditor has been here and is a very good auditor. He looks at what we do, not what he thinks should be done, and compares that to the requirements. Not a pushover, but we know if he says something, it is right.
AndyN 11th April 2008, 10:23 AM Thumbs up to you Steel! :agree1: Good work, and good to hear that you found a competent partner in the endeavour.
Have fun on the next audit!

^^^^^^ me too!
machrk 6th March 2009, 02:56 AM My company is just heading into trying for CE for EU CPD - I take it that it is quite a journey ?
Marc 6th March 2009, 04:06 AM Congrats from me too!
Ajit Basrur 6th March 2009, 06:26 AM Great News :applause:
Congratulations :agree1:

It's really not that big a deal, in our case it took longer to find someone to audit a steel mill than it did to submit the required paperwork, data and pass the audit.
Persson 11th March 2009, 11:35 AM Thanks all!
Our "NOBO" is UK CARES. .
Not familiar with UK CARES, what is its NB ID number?
SteelMaiden 11th March 2009, 12:22 PM UKAS Registration Number 002?
Persson 12th March 2009, 12:30 PM UKAS Registration Number 002?
A Notified Body ID number is a four-digit identification number such as: BSI 0086, SGS 0120, TUV PS 0123, TUV Rheinland 0197, DNV 0343, KEMA 0344, UL (UK) 0843, etc
chris1price 12th March 2009, 01:44 PM UK Cares are listed as an Approval Body and have no number. They are at: http://www.ukcares.co.uk/
SteelMaiden 12th March 2009, 02:14 PM Thanks Chris, I hadn't gotten back to this. I appreciate your assistance. Besides being a neophite in CE world, sometimes I'm a leeettle bit slow!
machrk 18th March 2009, 08:49 AM congrats
I was wondering - as a fellow steel QMS person - just how comprehensive do the technical file (TCF) and user manual have to be for construction products such as steel ?
I must admit I found wandering the EU sites like wandering through an endless maze
regards

SteelMaiden 18th March 2009, 12:25 PM We had to send in a bunch of data with all the characteristics/properties for review. The manual we submitted was our QMS manual, plus they had several documents to fill out, but they were very good about giving us the information as to what had to be submitted. I wandered about in the CE websites for months and never really learned anything helpful. So I would suggest find the group you are going to go with for certification and they will tell you what they need. Believe me, if they are going to be responsible for putting their name on the line, they will let you know if you need to provide them with something.
machrk 18th March 2009, 05:28 PM hi
thanks for the quick advice - really helpful as we are having a teleconference hook up tomorrow to discuss with our auditors

machrk 30th March 2009, 12:49 AM My company is at the first day of being audited for CE against the EU construction products directive 89/106/EEC - entry meeting went well - the auditor is now down at the first Steel Mill ... another 3 days of auditing to go - then lots more paperwork!
KerrieAnne aka machrk:bonk:
machrk 30th March 2009, 03:52 AM another quick question - regarding declaration of conformance processes - with other directives eg in relation to medical products it is necessary to register the declaration of conformance with the relevant "competent authority" in the appropriate country where the product is planned to be sold
- so is there an equivalent process for construction products directive situations ?
- or is it just a matter of your authorised representative holding the relevant technical file and user manual and making them available on request to the country's surveillance authority ?
thanks
KerrieAnne aka machrk
SteelMaiden 30th March 2009, 09:04 AM Did they ask for data on the grades of steel you wanted approved? They should tell you exactly what they need. We had to submit historical data, plus complete some forms/reports.
machrk 30th March 2009, 05:05 PM thanks
the auditor is looking at the historic data later this morning - we have pulled that together - I guess that we will find out what else we need to show during the audit
KerrieAnne aka machrk :thanks:

our 3 day CE Construction Products Directive audit of our steel plant finished today
the auditor is going to recommend we get certified ... now the wait to see what followups arise before we get the certificate ... finalise technical file & user manual ... prepare declaration of conformance and get the CE Labelling requirements started
many many thanks to all who gave me advice over the last month or so
KerrieAnne aka machrk
