I know that when one adds to an existing thread, the option is given.

I'm merely suggesting this from a server resource conservation standpoint.

I have one topic that I started in the Computer News section that I wish I could remove myself.

I have one topic that I started in the Computer News section that I wish I could remove myself.If necessary, the person with such an inclination merely has to click on the "report post" button for moderator help.

The value of a Forum like the Cove is the messages remain for historical and research purposes. We would expect requests for deletion only when someone discovers an egregious error or plagiarism and wishes to correct such error. Otherwise, I see little reason to delete an initial post in a thread.

Good suggestions.:agree1: Like Wes stated, if you ever want something removed, just let us know. Otherwise, we like to keep things around, even if they seem "perishable".

Right on, Wes. In the past, Marc has indicated he is not overly worried about the size/# of posts. He can always archive. I think he would rather have a repository of good threads on multiple subjects. The key is always assuring that threads have good titles for effective search efforts/ Google hits.

Go to 'edit', then 'Go advanced' and you will find the soft delete option.

I have one topic that I started in the Computer News section that I wish I could remove myself.A few years back someone got mad and deleted threads going back several years, as well as posts in threads the person made. Needless to say a lot of good information, including many attachments in the threads the person deleted, was gone. Because of this people can makes changes for about 2 weeks. After that they have to ask for help by using the Report button, but unless it's critical for some reason, we do not delete threads and/or posts.

No problem with server resources. It's only server space and I have about 200 GB free space.
