I don't see anything in the Wikipedia article that indicates the thing can read PDF files, and there are a lot of e-books in that format.

I don't know if I'd like that.
However - I'm considering getting one (or the Sony version) for my dad who has pretty severe rheumatoid arthritis in his hands... it would be easier than turning pages.

I would also love to hear any reviews from Covers about this or the Sony (Reader digital book)

From the wiki article:

"A user may also convert PDF files to supported formats using third-party software."

Which means that there's an additional step that needs to be taken which isn't necessary with other readers (and shouldn't be with the Kindle).

Broke down and bought one. Not for me though. Hubby is using it and so far he's content. Easy to use and see. Good signal strength. Found out that a reboot is recommended about once a week. Their whispernet network uses the Sprint network. So if you have good Sprint signals in your area, you should be fine.
