Was the auditor referring to a special characteristic or a special process? Have a look at this thread: Validation Of Outsourced Special Processes under AS9100 (http://elsmar.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=26753) for more information about special processes. If the reference was to a characteristic, you should ask the auditor for clarification of the requirement. Was this a customer's auditor, or a registrar's?

PPAP 4th edition glossary: Special Characteristics are product characteristics or manufacturing process parameters which can affect safety or compliance with regulations, fit, function, performance or subsequent processing of product.

If it is really special characteristic (SC)...
1.SC has to be assessed in FMEA (and marked in FMEA)
2.SC has to be controlled so has to be in CP (and marked in CP).
3.SC has to be identified in Operator Instruction.
4.Other elements concerned with SC control:
-inspection records
-capability
-uncertainty
-employee awareness

Hello Marcelo,
Welcome to the Cove Forums! :bigwave: :bigwave:
Look at this post + attachment: "Special Characteristics (http://elsmar.com/Forums/showpost.php?p=205700&postcount=6)."
Not a PowerPoint presentation, but a simple start.
