I think Cavanna is asking for advice about how to deal with the extended garbage collection strike in Naples, Italy. The city has been buried under garbage for months now. The EU are taking the Italian government to court to force a resolution (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7385282.stm). With the recent hot weather I find it hard to imagine what the smell must be like. Cavanna, I feel your pain but cannot think what you can do to solve this problem.:nope: Jimmy RCBeyette 12th May 2008, 09:26 AM Cavanna...you're a steel mill, right? Burn it. Not the most feasible option, of course: The cost vs benefits won't be there Potential health concerns Impact on chemistry and alloy usage Ah well, just brainstorming here. :) Claes Gefvenberg 12th May 2008, 11:31 AM We are looking suggestions for resolve our problem whit scraps in Naples :bigwave:I see. I have been hearing about this problem for quite some time now, and I don't suppose there are any "easy" remedies? Anyway, what the newscasts have not told us (at least not up here) is what your infrastructure looks like. I.e: What resources do you have at your disposal for dealing with the junk? /Claes Randy 12th May 2008, 12:28 PM Either settle the strike or quit making garbage and trash. Jim Wynne 12th May 2008, 12:29 PM http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergenza_rifiuti_in_Campania http://www.google.it/search?as_q=napoli&hl=it&num=10&btnG=Cerca+con+Google&as_epq=rifiuti+&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&cr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=&as_rights=&safe=images :nope: According to this CNN article (http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/01/07/naples.rubbish.background/index.html), something like $2.5 billion has been spent on the problem in the last ten years or so, with no solution in sight. Because there seems to be extensive corruption in local government, I have to wonder why the national government in Italy hasn't stepped in. Duhhhhhhhh!:bonk: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=corruption+in+italian+government&btnG=Google+Search Jim Wynne 12th May 2008, 10:19 PM Duhhhhhhhh!:bonk: Yes, Randy, I was unaware of corruption in Italian politics. Thanks for the helpful link--maybe one day I'll be smart, like you. Randy 12th May 2008, 11:01 PM In your dreams...My Mensa number is XX00236XX:lol: Hershal 13th May 2008, 12:44 AM I would love to offer advice.....but when I was in the Navy (same time Noah was a Sea Cadet) I was in Napoli six times.....the only place in the world I get Level III culture shock.....so my advice may not have any value..... SteelMaiden 13th May 2008, 09:15 AM I'm with Roxane, you can burn what you can, seperate out anything that has any kind of salvage or recycling value (even if it doesn't actually pay you, there is value there for lots of recyclables even if it is primarily land fill usage minimization.) |
