Hello Covers,

Americans have a drinking problem, and not the type that comes to mind.

"America's unhealthiest drinks exposed" is an article authored by David Zinczanko with Matt Goulding. Click here for details :

http://health.yahoo.com/experts/eatthis/5027/americas-unhealthiest-drinks-exposed/

Enjoy your drink ;)

 They taste good. And you can get them at the drive through. No need to leave your vehicle to consume these.:biglaugh::D:o

I try to stick to V8 + anti-oxidants, water, or applejuice myself....coffee is my crutch at work probably 4 black coffees per day :mg:

I see they have a suggested light beer, if anyone's tried Beck’s Premier Light please post whether it tastes decent....I wouldn't mind switching from Bud Light to this if it's within the same realm of flavor.

That shake listed is comical, anything that allows you to intake more than 2000 calories in less than 10 minutes should probably come with a warning on the container.

Thanks for posting the interesting article....it's quite true when it comes to the issue of eating healthy we often don't consider what we drink.

I'm guessing that the Beck's product tastes nothing like Alka-Seltzer, which is the closest thing I can think of to the taste of Bud Light. :tg:

The root side for that is "Eat this not that" on the Mens Health web site

http://www.menshealth.com/eatthis/index.php

Look at the sodium contents of some of these:

http://www.menshealth.com/eatthis/20-Saltiest-Foods-in-America/index.php

Romano's Macaroni Grill Chicken Portobello
Sodium 7,300 mg
Calories 1,020
Fat 66 g

yum!

Lol we're all entitled to our opinions...to me Bud Light is easy on the wallet and still tastes decent. I'd choose Sam Adam's Light over both, and I'd choose a rum and coke or 7&7 over all....but apparently by the article I should give Mojitos a shot.

I looked up some taste test info for light beers anyhow and considering the results, and that Becks is more expensive than any others, I think I'll stick with Bud Light or Sam Adams Light...to heck with those extra 40 calories per beer! Also I won't drink beer out of a can, only bottles, it just tastes better to me.

I might add that the fridge currently is stocked with Blue Moon Belgium White Ale....brewed by Coors it comes in at 175 calories and tastes great if you like unfiltered wheat beers such as Hefeweizen. Anyway, back to the original topic lol, sorry.

IMHO, even worse than table sugar is a little monster called High Fructose Corn Suryp (HFCS). Coke switched to this when they introduced New Coke, and it is in most regular soft drinks (if anyone knows of a "non diet" soda that doesn't have it, please let me know). It is also in a LOT of foods (check your bread label). I have heard some blame the rise in diabetes in the US on HFCS.

Lest someone want to smugly suggest diet sodas, sugar alcohols are a whole 'nother story.

Craig is right!

Read the story of High-fructose Corn Syrup (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_fructose_corn_syrup).

And another one (http://www.westonaprice.org/motherlinda/cornsyrup.html)....

Coke made with real sugar tastes better than the coke made with HFCS. You can get that in Mexico and Europe for sure (maybe other places) and/or some Mexican restaurants/stores in the US.

this is why, on the rare occasion I drink soda, I drink soda that uses cane sugar. Like Jones - the Green Apple is really good.

While a liquid, but not a beverage, ketchup is one of the worst, if not the worst, offender. Read the label.

Sterno is not that healthy and I've people drink it, just like furniture polish and vanilla extract.

Also tea made from psilocybin ain't that good for ya either and I've seen in drunk by the gallon.

Don't even ask about health effects of the special brand of grape koolaide provided by Jim Jones to his followers

Interestingly most Americans that visit me in the UK love the taste of our Coke Zero, which is apparently not a common product in the US. Apparently it tastes "like Coke used to" - probably nostalgia talking.

I think it tastes a lot more natural than Diet Coke and not as sickly as Full Fat Coke, having said that "sickly" is relative - Baskin Robbin’s Large Heath Bar Shake, yeuuggghhh :yuk:

Jimmy (still feeling slightly nauseous at the thought)

I can't really speak to calories, though I should pay more attention to the little devils.....

I tend to drink clear sodas because of the caffine in the darker sodas, but they still have a lot of sugar I think.....

I really enjoy a tall glass of COLD milk.....2% (I got used to it over the years) or real milk either one works.....

I like lemonade and when I am at Johnny Reb's or back in the South sweet tea of course.....

Orange juice.....

Taste, as for beer, I like real beer (a good lager is my personal favorite), not fake beer or lite.....

The Borg Sphere and James Tea Kirk (both at ST:TE) are I think my favorite mixed drinks, followed closely by a Scooby Snack (regular one, not a Screaming).....my son prefers the Warp Core Breach, but the cranberry juice just doesn't do it for me.....

And I enjoy a good California Champagne, like the Almond Champagnes.....

on a tangent...

The first time I visited England (up around Manchester) all the rage in beer was... get this.... Budweiser.
In the city anyway. The father of my colleague at the time owns a pub in the Crewe area - I don't think he had any.
Which was good. I don't drink Bud here, I'm sure not going to drink it across the pond.

Regarding the Becks Light - its okay. You can drink it. For a light beer, it is good. I like it better than Bud Light or Budweiser Select.

I personally prefer porter style beers so the Becks Light is something I drink purely to save on the calories & carbs.

Summertime, I buy a local brewed Maiboch or variety packs of microbrew beers.

We tried the Bud Light Lime over the weekend and my husband decided that "It tastes like Bud Light...with lime" -- a very profound statement, I know. But it does. Something different. Definitely better than Miller Chill.

As for the person who asked about Diet soda that doesn't have that bad syrup - I think Diet Rite qualifies - not sure if it is sold nationally or not

Yes, but it can protect you from the Andromeda Strain. ;)

I had a friend of mine that use to drink, what they called, a Bloody Brain. You took a shot of Vermouth and carefully poured some Baileys in it, followed by a bit of Grenadine. The Baileys looked like it coagulated and the red grenadine looked like blood. When asked about the taste, he said it wasn't bad until you tried to get the Baileys off your teeth!!!!!:mg:
He was also known to have a Killians poured over chocolate ice cream!

But the drink I've seen put the most people away is the Yeager-Bomb.

we use to trick people into something similar in college...

it was a shot of bailey's, hold it in your mouth and add a shot of lime juice.
The shake your head around.

We called it the cement mixer.

Have you ever seen anyone on a Goldschlager (sp?) binge. I once saw a guy add the rare swing set option to his Bronco. We didn't know he was leaving until he just went to the Bronco and cranked it up. He drove right under the legs of the swing set. It almost looked like it belonged. Fortunately we got him stopped, and after figuring out how to extract him and remove the swing set we called his wife.

She was not amused.

I like a shot of Goldschlager now and then, but have never had the swingset option put on my car!!!
Worse one I saw was when I was in Chicago (Great Lakes) and a friend of mine was drinking shots of Jack. He got up from the bar to walk to the john and when he did, he stepped into the circular brace for the legs of his bar stool. When he took a step the stool came with him and they both hit the floor. The stool was fine, my buddy had a broken ankle!!
Bar stools have it in for sailors, I watch my back anytime I'm around them.

That sounds very much like shot called a Brain Tumor. Rather than vermouth you use peach schnapps...everything else is the same.
