My company is a repackager/relabeler and I am having a large probelm caused by a small issue that ocurred months ago. One of my contract fillers was advised by Sales to change the fill volume of a reagent from Xml to Yml. This is a custom item. The filler did not change their part number when changing the specification and thus Project Management did not feel it warrented a part number change on our end which led to certain other documentation changes on our end not occurring. Obviously we failed and are in the process of correcting the deficiency.

My question is this: should a manufacturer change their part number if the specification changes?

Gumaer,

Not neccessarily. I guess it depends on your industry and your business system. I do have a customer that changes part numbers when they make a revision as a "work around" to their MRP system.
