Good Morning! :bigwave:

My company is about to start implementing AS9100 as a new standard. I have a few questions about it.

First off, is there a good matrix anyone can point me to that shows what additional requirements are necessary that aren't addressed in the ISO 9001 standard?

Also, I notice that some aerospace companies keep both their ISO 9001 and their AS9100 certifications, while others are only certified for AS9100. I know that AS9100 is based on ISO, therefore if you are certified as AS9100 you are already practicing the ISO standard. Is it purely for a marketing standpoint to list both standards on one certificate? I hope this question isn't too confusing!

Thank you in advance!
Susan

When you read the AS9100 document, you can immediately recognize the AS augmented requirements, because they appear in bold, italicized text.

Just use ISO 9001 and fill in the extra clauses from AS9100 such as 7.3.6 would also have 7.3.6.1, 7.3.6.2, etc...

You don't really need a seperate matrix..............

As for the ISO and AS question....some holders of the AS certificate also provide product outside the aerospace sector and that's why they have both. A customer requireing ISO9001 may not recognize AS9100 for what it is. It's called business ( $ )

If you have not done so purchase the AS9100B Standard along with ISO 9000:2005. Read AS9100 cover to cover and use the terms and definitions contained in ISO 9000 to understand the terminology of the Standard.

As for the certification listing both ISO and AS, this is up to the company becoming registered. Since you are being audited to all the requirements of ISO 9001 and the additional aerospace requirements contained in AS9100 why not list both on the certificate.

Here is an attached file that Sidney graciously provided on one of his posts. I wish I could find where it was so I could list the thread that it was originally posted with. It is only a "Coordination Draft for the AS9100:2008 Version" soon to be released. But, since Sidney originally posted it, and there has been no copyright issues that I am aware of, here it is: Read through it to get an understanding. Remember, this is only a Coordination Draft and not the Official release of the 2008 version. You still should purchase the released standard.

Also, I notice that some aerospace companies keep both their ISO 9001 and their AS9100 certifications, while others are only certified for AS9100. I know that AS9100 is based on ISO, therefore if you are certified as AS9100 you are already practicing the ISO standard.

Yes, our certificate will reflect both standards. Since you would meet AS9100x you would also meet ISO9001:200x, so why not have both standards reflected on the Certificate.

Went to a seminar with NASA yesterday and there were members of the IAQG there talking about the new release. I figured I better get started and the data in here is at least a start. The good news is that there will be a transistion period allowed to make the conversion.
