Hi everyone. Today will be the last day of our 4 day Assesment audit for as9100. So far we've had 5 minor NC's. If everything goes well we will be recomended pending implentation and effectiveness of Corrective actions.

I was wondering is there anywhere that shows how many company's get the AS9100 cert on the first pass with no NC's or if the do get NC's how many. I know there is no set numbers, that it's on a case by case basis. I'm interested in hearing people experiances. I'm looking to get a feel for how we did overall. Thank you.

Your AS9100 audit was conducted using the AS9101 checklist. The audit is scored using this checklist then posted to the OASIS database. Your final "score" is given to you at the end of the audit. It would be unfair to look at a comparison of "scores" because of the way the scoring is done. Look through the score sheet and you will see what I mean. Also, there are many different size companies in aerospace. The complexity of their systems can be worlds apart. For a small company, certification on the first attempt may be easy. On the other hand it may be harder because you didn't have as many resources.

My point is, I am not sure if there is a place to get the information you are looking for and if a place existed, I'm not sure why anyone would go there. In my opinion anyone who gains certification to AS9100 should be congratulated. It doesn't matter how many attempts it took or how many N/C's you had. The point is you put in a system that meets the requirements and you should be congratulated for that. Your company should be proud of the accomplishment.

Now the hard work begins. Now that the system is in place and the baby is born, the company has to maintain it, feed it and help it grow. Some births are hard, some are easy but we all start from day 1 and live from there.

For what it's worth, 5 minors isn't too shabby. If at the end the auditor says he is recommending you for certification, be proud, pass out the cigars and celebrate. Good luck with today's audit.

Thank you.
We were recommended pending implementation and effectiveness of corrective action on the 5 minors. The auditor said we should feel proud because there is nothing serious or earth shattering just a few what he referred to as hiccups.

Thank you to everyone who is a part of this magnificent forum. It has been with a lot of help and reading on here that has brought my knowledge and understanding of Quality Management to a whole other level from when I started out last year.:thanx:

I've never seen an initial AS9100 certification audit with 0 nonconformities. 5 is pretty reasonable.

Congratulations on the recommendation!

Congrats on your first AS audit.

I have been through 6 audits (2 companies) and the and have received anywhere from 3 to 8 minors. The trick is the C.A.R. Root cause analysis and permanent actions so that when the auditor comes back he can see that your system is effective.

I can imagine that your stress level is much lower now. Make sure you congratulate all of the people involved.

Good luck with you future audits.

Congratulations! And thanks for this post, as it reiterates something I've been saying for a while. The picture that's been painted for us is that we "fail" our AS9100 registration audit (coming up in August) if we have 1 minor finding. I came from a QS / TS world where we considered a successful audit one where the findings were minor and could be closed by submitting CA's as you will do. It would only be considered a failed audit if the auditor stopped the audit or had to come back and reaudit. Thanks for pointing out that a hiccup or 2 does not mean the sky is falling.

Congrats on your certification.

I can't wait until our cert. audit is done. Pass or fail, the anxiety is a killer. Good job on getting through it all.

We were recommended pending implementation and effectiveness of corrective action on the 5 minors. Well done. :agree1:

Keep in mind, though, according to the AS/EN 9104 document (which stipulates requirements associated with the AS certification process), your certificate can not be issued until all 5 minor non-conformities are addressed with proper corrective action, which must be implemented and verified for effectiveness, by the CB.

Some CB's are more demanding than others in terms of root cause analysis and what would constitute objective evidence that the proposed corrective actions have been implemented and are effective.
