Hi, hope someone can help me with this...I have just been given the job of implementing 18001 at work, having successfully just achieved 14001.

I can see the crossover for most points within 14001 and 18001, however I am having a little trouble defining the hazard identification and risk assessment register.

Please would someone look at the attached draft example I have developed for my HIRA register and comment? I will of course draw up a methodology and rank the risks.

Unlike my 14001 aspect register, I am creating a HIRA register for each office we have - is this necessary?

Should I provide a risk rating for all operating conditons as well?

Yes, go point by point through clause 4.3.1 and do exactly as it states. This includes potential hazards and the risks that could be associated with them as well including changes to anything that could create hazards to employees or others in the workplace.

please consider including team members that work in the areas that you are analyzing for hazards.

As for other replies do involve others and make sure you involve the H & S specialists as well. These are the guys and gals who can make sure your risk register is appropriate based on actual experience in the industry and that your legal obligations are satisfied - fairly substantial in the UK. :frust:

The severity figures need to be looked at, though, as the two hazards you have identified are considerably more severe than you have recorded.

Don't mix severity with likelihood. For example an electrical shock can cause death - it doesn't mean the risk is high - because of all the controls you have listed.

Should I provide a risk rating for all operating conditons as well? Again - it depends! You need to consider operating environment, routine, non-routine and emergency situations. If the hazards and risks are all the same then the one rating can cover all.

Bear in mind also that the risk rating should be the driver for your objectives and targets. I.e. you focus your improvement activities on the areas of most potential benefit in H & S!
