Hello everyone.I am new to this form.

In our company we just started using s/c and c/c in our design FMEA.So I am just wondering what is right way to fill those characterictes.

For example:

I have 1 item from my product which has 4 potential failure mode. And in the drawing of that item we have 10 s/c.The severity, occurance and detection # are 8,2 and 2.

So my question is do I have to just fill s/c in class coloum next to each failure mode or I have to show how many s/c effect each failur mode by using 3 s/c,1 s/c etc.

Or there is any other way to do so.

Thanks,
Singh

Singh,

The S/C (or the appropriate) Special Characteristic symbol is associated with the characteristic itself. If my memory serves me well (I'm away from my FMEA resources), it is entered in the S/C column once. The purpose is to draw attention to that particular characteristic and subsequently you are expected to address the identified failure modes.

Welcome to the forum. I agree with Stijloor. I always asked myself, what condition or circumstance may cause each individual significant characteristic to be at risk of failure; if they're from different sources of variations, you may want to consider addressing each SC individually.

:bigwave:you are welcome THe elsmar forums
You can fill this column according to Ford FMEA handbook :

Classification: YC (critical characteristic) - Severity:9-10
YS (Significal characteristic) - Severity:5-8 and
Occurance:- 4-10

I hope this information useful and enough for you.
