I am creating a quality manual and procedures for a new small PMA division of my company and I have questions about suppliers and dimensional inspections. If I am using a supplier I have approved through an audit do I need to re-inspect parts I procure from them if they have done a full dimensional inspection and their quality system is adequate to perform such an inspection.

Where I worked before we inspected every part that came in even it was just inspected by a qualified supplier. It was written into our quality manual to do so but I am not sure if it is an actual requirement. I am currently reading FAA Order 8120.2E Appendix 2 section 6, d. But it is not 100% clear to me.

See section 4, Part B of the Evaluation Criteria........starts with question number 413.

Thanks for the information. As I see it per 8100.7C, section 4, part B, question 413 (3) shows I do not need to do another inspection as long as the data (including dimensional inspections) provided by my supplier meets the approved data and is fully reviewed for acceptance and the parts are not an initial lot.

If anyone has any further input I am more than happy to have your advise.

Working with a couple of differant MIDO's ( FAA manufacturing inspction district offices) none have ever had this as an expectation in my experiance. Your facility is always responsable for your suppliers and any supplier under them for the parts that brought into your FAA production approval system. Based on what you document in your system for control of suppliers and receiept of product and materials from them a C of C might all that is needed. In some cases you might want to have ATP or key feature test data supplied and in others you will perform some type of actual inspection upon receipt.
