View Full Version : Control of Monitoring and Measuring Devices - Clause 7.6 Exclusion?

Hi All,

I'm working on finishing up a quality manual and have a question about Clause 7.6, Control of Monitoring and Measuring Devices.

We are a contract manufacturer building computer systems and racks. There really are not any devices that we could think of which would monitor and measure our product, as it is human judgment which ensures we match the customer specification. Furthermore, we do not have any tools or devices which can or need to be calibrated. That being said, is it appropriate for my company to exclude clause 7.6?

I appreciate any help you have to offer! Thanks!

Have you really considered everything when you state you could exclude this element?

You state you build computer systems and racks. How do you ensure you meet the customer requirements? If a customer specifies a rack measuring 18.5 inches wide by 14.25 inches deep, how do you determine that measurement? If you are wiring a component how do you determine the wire size? Do you use weight scales in shipping or receiving? Are there any bench tests required?

If you can truly say 7.6 doesn't apply, you can exclude it but you must ensure "the exclusion will not affect your ability or responsibility to provide product that meets customer and applicable regulatory requirements".

I would think it is pretty unusual that an exclusion be taken on this element.
