View Full Version : Management Review contents for Multiple Standards
hwgdad 11th August 2008, 02:06 PM My company is easing into an Integrated Managment System (9001,14001,18001). As we add the 14001 and 18001, I am trying to expand our Quality management Review in an overall QESH Review.
Has anyone done this already and what have you had to add to your Management Review meetings to accomodate the 14001 and 18001 additions?
Thanks!
Richard Downs, CSP
Sidney Vianna 11th August 2008, 02:18 PM what have you had to add to your Management Review meetings to accomodate the 14001 and 18001 additions?Simply, by reading OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 14001:2004, the MINIMUM agenda to be added should include:
From OHSAS 18001:
Input to management reviews shall include:
a) results of internal audits and evaluations of compliance with applicable legal requirements and with other requirements to which the organization subscribes;
b) the results of participation and consultation (see 4.4.3);
c) relevant communication(s) from external interested parties, including complaints;
d) the OH&S performance of the organization;
e) the extent to which objectives have been met;
f) status of incident investigations, corrective actions and preventive actions;
g) follow-up actions from previous management reviews;
h) changing circumstances, including developments in legal and other requirements related to OH&S; and
i) recommendations for improvement.
From ISO 14001:
Input to management reviews shall include
a) results of internal audits and evaluations of compliance with legal requirements and with other requirements to which the organization subscribes,
b) communication(s) from external interested parties, including complaints,
c) the environmental performance of the organization,
d) the extent to which objectives and targets have been met,
e) status of corrective and preventive actions,
f) follow-up actions from previous management reviews,
g) changing circumstances, including developments in legal and other requirements related to its environ mental aspects and

Sidney Vianna 11th August 2008, 03:39 PM Thanks for the reponse; now what is the practicle application of that knowledge?Now I am confused. Your public profile lists you as a QUESH consultant. Shouldn't you know the answer to that question? Otherwise, what kind of QUESH consulting do you do?
hwgdad 12th August 2008, 10:20 AM Can someone help me with an answer?

Sidney provided the expected inputs for management review, which seemed to answer your initial question:
...what have you had to add to your Management Review meetings to accomodate the 14001 and 18001 additions?.
If you have an ISO 9001 system in place, and management reviews have been done, you should have some idea about how to capture the inputs.
Perhaps if you gave a little more detail about what you're looking for, someone can give some specific advice.
hwgdad 12th August 2008, 10:47 AM With all due respect, thank you for you answer. I have the standards in front of me; I already had the answer that was given.
What I am looking for is how that knowledge is applied to a Management Review for 9001, 14001, 18001. Between the three standards, 14001 and 18001 have Mgt. Review requirements that 9001 does not have.
If you work for DNV, I am sure that you have been to companies that have an Integrated Management System. I will also bet, you have experienced practicle application in this arena. If that IS the case, then what tips and tricks can you share that will be of help to make these meetings, efficient, meaningful and would satisfy your external audit as conforming to all three standards?
Thank you for your help.

Hi Rich,
I'm not certain that I can help, but here's my take on your request.
I've attached a sample Procedural Flow Chart for the Internal Audit of a similar "Integrated System"...this one complies with ISO/TS 16949 (yellow reference boxes), ISO 14001 (green) and Chrysler's Customer-Specific Requirements (red).
When you conduct an audit of this type of procedural flow chart, using the "process approach", you cover the requirements of all 3 "standards" simultaneously. Similarly, when you conduct a Management Review, you are covering all three standards. There's really nothing special that you need to do.
I think what you have to do is define what is being reviewed at what level of Management.
Possible Scenario:
If you have a Management Review Hierarchy with 2 levels:
1) Functional Level - Environmental Safety Dept./Function, Quality Function, or Health and Safety Function...
2) Operational Level - Senior Management
The attached Management Review Meeting Minutes - Environmental, might be the bi-product of a "functional/Departmental level" meeting.
What is input to the "Operational Level (Sr. Mgmt)" meeting might be just a sub-set of the output from this meeting, for example, just the "Performance Metrics, legislative changes, need for Policy changes, etc".
You could create a similar form for "Management Review - Operating System", and decide what topics you want covered therein, using the output of Environmental/Health & Safety/Quality reviews and Mr. Vianna's list from above as guides.
I hope this hasn't been too cryptic...

hwgdad 13th August 2008, 03:44 PM You see, this is the answer I was looking for; not someone questioning my professional credentials.
We are all here to help each other. What I do not know someone else will. Praise to all of the people on this site who are here to give professional advice and support. I hope to pay it back when I can....
